I have an old Intertherm 911030 that has a pilot. I would like to change it to an electronic ignition. The furnace info say MG-055A. Is this possible? This is used in a park model home. thanks

Hello Denise Zier,

In our area...
the local gas (PG&E) company had a subsidized program the make the CONVERSION ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE...

It is POSSIBLE... but without any subsidy...
I'd seriously check out the prices of a complete new heater... and weigh the benefits against the cost...

((not to mention newer heaters are JUST MORE efficient)).

The conversion involves changing out the entire gas valve, adding a compatible control (logic) board, thermocouple, pilot head and most likely a hot surface igniter (likely a new transformer too).

All done by a CERTIFIED INSTALLER (w/PERMIT).

I'm sure the "NEW" conversions are more reliable than the old "NEW" conversions... I didn't want to become knowledgeable about the... but I did... and before COMPLETELY replacing the
heater.. went back the OLD PILOT... just to get warm.

I'm just saying... Now we have the heat-pump...
pretty in-efficient... but with SOLAR PANELS...
who really cares (aah warmth at last).

Pictures are SAMPLES ONLY... Not applicable to you.

I have an old Intertherm 911030 (probably from early 1990) that has a pilot. I would like to change it to an electronic ignition. Is this possible?thanks

Hello again Denise Zier,

If you are concerned about cutting fuel costs...
you can buy a lot of fuel for the cost of conversion...
perhaps a new heater would be a wiser choice...(??)

Call the local Lennox York or Rheem folks
(see below for they guys I used)... 1-800-360-1569.

If the pilot is not reliable... a less than $20 thermocouple
may only need to be replaced...

available through, eBay, AMAZON or (best) your local
hardware store... they just pull out... and BECAUSE
LENGHT is important it is best to take the old one
with you
(big caution... do NOT overtighten)...!!

The wind keeps on blowing out pilot light in the Intertherm Gas Furnace

The wind is probably not the culprit here. You probably have a crack in the heat exchanger, which allows the air from the blower to escape and blow out the pilot light.

Bad thermocouple or flame sensor, or even a bad pilot gas valve.

We have an intertherm heating system, its probably 30 or more years old, and we cant see a pilot light, and we havn't been able to light it. the model is mac 1175.

The pilot light jet may have got a little bit of dirt or grit in it which is preventing it from keeping alight. Try probing the jet with a fine piece of wire to see it the blockage can be dislodged. You may have to unscrew the jet to clear it by blowing air through it. Make sure gas is turned off first before removing any parts.

The pilot light also has a thermocouple that allows gas to the pilot light while the flame is burning. If flame goes out it shuts gas off to the pilot jet. The thermocouple is bypassed by a switch during the initial ignition and once the thermocouple warms up after a minute or two of holding in the bypass switch, it should maintain the pilot. If, after cleaning, the pilot light keeps going out, it would seem that your thermocouple is faulty and needs to be replaced

How do I light the pilot on my InterTherm MGBB 070 furnace? I have tried holding in the pilot switch but have had no success in getting the pilot lit.

Just to make sure you are trying to light the pilot, from the gas valve follow the small diameter pipe (1/8") to the pilot assembly. Where you should be placing your flame is above that point. Now with the gas valve knob turned to the Pilot marking, depress the know into the gas valve. Light the pilot. Check to see if it is lit and remain holding the knob in for 30 to 45 seconds. If the flame goes out as soon as you let out the knob, you will need to replace the thermocouple.
