I have not used the notebook for around 6 months and then tried yesterday night and it did not boot. Initially Vaio screen Flashed 2-3 times and then went off. Once I was able to go to user LOGIN but then it went off suddenly. Now after that I tried for almost 20-25 times yesterday and today but unable to boot.
I tried with direct AC current, removed the battery etc, all sorts of possible combinations of batter and AC powwre, but nothing.
When I switch the notebook on, the power light is ON, Hard disk light is on for around 30-40 sec and then goes off. On the top, Scroll, caps and num lights are continuously on. But no sound, the screen is dead black, planning to contact Sony support in another 8 hrs, please help !!!!

Can you charge it ? If Yes, you might have run out your battery, please charge it for at least 5 minutes, then try again to powering up. If not, have you try to pull out your laptop battery and then plug the charger to your laptop then hit the power button ? is that laptop can boot up ?
if Yes, you might need to replace your battery If Not, you can bring that laptop to service center :D
In some case, if after pull out baterry and laptop can boot up using power adapter direclty, you can put it back the battery to the laptop and the laptop will turn on normaly
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.
Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.
because ur laptop have virus log on, now u go to safe mode and use software virus to scan. if u have another laptop u copy file userinit.exe from it and boot from cd after copy this file to c:\windows\system32\
Try to remove the battery, remove AC adapter, and press and hold power button for 45 sec. reinsert battery, and Plug and try again, if that doesn't solve it, you may need to try to change memory first, (cheapest) or the motherboard or CPU.
