Set to another resolution mode like 600x800, its likely that it may be set to a mode your screen cannot display.

Hi shirley_ann1,

This problem that you have with your PC is a NO BOOT issue. After getting the startup Toshiba logo it's not booting up to your Windows. This could be a hardware or software problem depending on the result of the diagnostics that I'll be walking you through below, but definitely this issue can still be fixed.

Here's how:

1. If this is a software issue you can determine it by booting up on safe mode. To go to safe mode:
  • Shutdown the computer then turn it back on
  • The moment you turn on you PC keep on tapping F8 button until Safe Mode menu shows.
  • Then select Safe Mode, press enter.
If you'll be able to boot up on Windows using Safe Mode then you just have to reload your operating system. You will use the recovery disc that goes with your machine when you purchase it.

2. If it's a hardware issue you will not be able to boot up even on Safe Mode or even go to BIOS when you keep on tapping F2 during startup. This means your harddrive is corrupted or defetive. It needs to be reimaged or replaced.

Hope this will help you resolve your concern.

Thank you for using Fixya.

Did you recently install a new hard drive?

Try and do a system restore boot the computer in safe mode with networking to do this you:

  1. Turn on laptop
  2. While booting up press and hold F8
  3. Until you are brought to a boot up option page with different ways of booting up
  4. Click safe mode with networking
  5. When you do this computer will load and click system restore
  6. Restore computer to a previous date when it was working

Upon turning it on keep pressing the F8 key to obtain the repair screen
Choose start windows in the safe mode with the COMMAND PROMPT
When the screen shows C:/ type in chkdsk /f /r
Then restart the computer
If the windows still won't start take the unit back for exchange or have the BOOTMGR installed

A friends toshiba satellite A120 has corrupted it can not get past the log in screen and we do not know what to do

Turn on the laptop and keep pressing F8, it should take you to a boot menu. From there choose safe mode and see if you can get to a login screen there, if you can get past that login screen and get into windows safe mode then go into the control panel and under users you should be able remove the user accounts you don't want. Then you can reboot the laptop and you should be able to get into windows then normally.

If you try to go into safe mode and can't get past that login screen then your going to need a program to remove the passwords manually for you.

Here is a program to help you with that:

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Its a free download and just follow the instructions to create the cd and then boot the laptop off of the cd and follow the directions on screen.

I need to reboot my toshiba equium l10-300 laptop with no cd

Try starting in safe mode. Hold down oth the control and F8 kays and press power. Do not release Contro & F8 until it starts to beep. Then it shoud start in safe mode. If the computer will not start in safe mode you have a hardware problem. If it starts in safe mode, you have a Windows problem that re-installing Windows will solve that (to a point). Without the Original CD and install code, you have two options. Buy a new OS or.......pirate it. I do not recommend the last.

Toshiba equium m40x won't power up

whats happening is that the cpu is overheating and shutting down the computer due to your fan not spinning, if you wish to test this remove the bottom panel and remove the fan and its cooling tubes should all be one part (quite easy 3 or 4 bolts) and blow on the cpu or put a pedistal fan facing it or any other form of cooling that wont damage it, and try to start it if it boots for a while it is the fan and you will need to replace it, i had this exact problem yesterday
