Lexmark z1480 wifi configuration

I am having problems with my lexmark z1480 printer configuration. I can run through installation and all is well but my laptop cannot access the printer unless the usb cable is attached. I use AVAST instead of NORTON and have SecureVPN installed that I use for remote work. Why can't the wireless configuration for the printer find it. The printer shows on my 2wire wireless router and I am running XP

no only way to install it is with the USB. I can ping the IP address successfully and the light is green on the WIFI. but when I go to printers, properties, port and add port the lexmark wireless configuration comes up with the IP address I add does not show the printer. I have checked the configuration on the gateway to my 2wire and it shows the printer there.

Exactly same problem with Lexmark X6570 printer. Wifi printer installed - wifi light is green. Can see the printer form my Network Hub, Nettwork Settings print from printer shows Connected and the IP adreess of the Gateway is correct (the DHCP hub).

I tried adding a new Standard TCP/IP port , Added the Printers IP address and ot a window saying 'Detected Device is of Unknown Type' with a Drop Down box to Select.

I tried 'Lexmark Network Printer', 'Lexmark External Print Server (1 Port) and the default of 'Genereic Network Card'.

All with the same result. I don't get the connection error now, I get the Lexmark dialog box saying that it is printing and print completed but still no print.

Lexmark documentation says there should be a Port with name xxxx_Series_nnnnnn_P1 where xxxx is model series no (i.e. 6500 ) and nnnnnn is the last 6 numbers of the MAC Address. It seems like for some reason the installation didn't create them. Although I used that name when Adding the new TCP/IP port I still can't get it to work

It can be done; the trick is to use the USB line to set up the printer's WIFI, check it out on the printer's menu (Settings>Network>etc.), then disconnect the USB and install the rest of the software over the WIFI. This forces the computer to recognise the printer at its MAC address. BUT, and it's a big BUT, the printer queue gets lost (on my system anyway) as soon as I go onto the internet; I guess this may be because I use an antique router which does not distinguish between printers and other devices. A more modern "hub" might solve the problem.

Further to last effort, I tried upgrading my router's firmware to latest version - it's a 5 year old Netgear DG834Gv2. Well, much to my surprise, the printer now works fine - no loss of print queue and generally better than using the USB.

Further to last posting, I've updated the firmware on my router and the printer now works fine!

Is the printer installed without USB cable?
if not, then you need to reinstall the application without the usb cable connected.
Ping the printer IP address after you have setup the printer.

when you get it IP Address, write it down.

go to printer and faxes, right click on the printer, that will give you the properties of the printer. click on the port tab, select add port, select standard TCP/IP port. select new port (mid box). click next and enter the IP address of the printer. Click on next, the Lexmark printer should come up. flollow the rest of the instruction. try to print a test page.

wireless connection to any of the external device have to have a IP address.

you say that wouldn't work, then I don't know what to tell you, I been doing this for last 10 years, and that is the only way to have a fixed connection when you restart the machine. otherwise you have to reinstall the printer everytime you restart the machine.

Wifi signal orange. showing as not connected to computer

This could be a slight communication problem. Try to reboot your computer. Unplug and replug the printer into the power outlet in the wall to reset it. Doing this usually fixes minor communication issues.
If there's still no communication, try to reset your printer's network settings - How to Reset the Z1400 and Z1500 Series Network Settings. Once done, re-launch the Lexmark Wireless Setup Utility on your computer to reconfigure the printer to your wireless network. If you're using Windows, go to Start menu > Programs > Lexmark Z1400 Series > Tools > Wireless Setup Utility. Follow the instructions on your computer screen.

I can't get it to work! Wi-Fi light will never turn on! I have tried everything, I'm running Windows 7 64 bits, I tried many times reinstalling, nothing works! Please help!

You should try resetting the internal network adapter of your Lexmark Z1480 printer. Please refer to this article from the Lexmark website - How to Reset the Z1400 and Z1500 Series Network Settings. The WiFi light on the printer should turn orange after doing the steps. Try to configure the wireless setup on your computer again.
Also, make sure to use the correct printer driver for your Windows 7 64-bit. If you're not sure, unplug the printer from your computer and uninstall any existing Lexmark Z1400 software before installing the new driver. Go to Start menu -> Programs -> Lexmark Z1400 Series -> Tools -> Uninstall. Reboot when prompted.
To reinstall the software, download the printer driver using this link Lexmark Z1400 driver for Windows 7 64-bit. Execute the file and follow the instructions on the software.
I hope this information has been helpful. Thanks.

I have an Lexmark z1480 wireless printer, it is currently set up on our home network and works with my PC. We have recently purchased and iMac. I have downloaded the drivers for the printer and installed...

Can you tell the Mac to "browse for networked printers" (or something like that) ? Once it scans your local network for "shared" printers, it should find the printer.

Does anyone know what the flashing green power indicator means on a Lexmark Z1480 printer? I don't have the manual anymore, and the Lexmark website does not have any information about the blinking green...

If it is blinking fast, it means that you have something in the paper path. Check the paper path.
If it's blinking slow, it means that paper has run out in the middle of a print job. Add paper.
