Does the burner turn on, does the indoor fan motor turn on?
Typical sequence is when it calls for heating, the ignitor turns on a pilot light, the pilot light turns on a main burner, as the hot box heats a electrothermal switch turns the fan on. Other interlock items is a combustion blower motor must be detected as running for the main burner to switch on, toll out flame sensor may trip the furnace if the flame flows and rolls away from the heat exchangers.
Test for power.

This is no doubt due to failure of the "hot surface ignitor". This device lights the main burners for your furnace, and they fail a lot. I strongly recommend the replacement should be done by a technician.

Not much info to go on, but lets look at a few possibilities. Your thermostat could be turned to the ?Fan On? setting, make sure you put it in the ?Auto? mode. Or it could be bad, or there could be a short in the wiring. Open up the access panel on your furnace. Lets eliminate the thermostat from the equation by disconnecting the red, white and if you have a yellow wire at the furnace. Mark down which wire went where. The furnace will have a door safety switch that will have to be taped temporarily closed to test the furnace. With a short piece of wire (2-3" long), strip off 1/2 inch of the insulation on both ends. Secure one end on the R terminal where you removed the red wire from your thermostat. Take the other end and touch the G terminal on the same electrical board. Your fan will start. Don't worry about an electrical shock, the voltage is only 24 volts. Now with one end still attached to the R terminal, touch the W terminal where the white wire was attached. The furnace will now try to fire up. Hold it there until you see that it did start. If you did this and had success, I would say it was your thermostat or the wire going to it. Last resort would be a bad control board. If you want, you can do test your thermostat wiring by removing the thermostat from it's mounting plate. Put all wires back where they were on the furnace. Make sure the access door is back in place and secure. Take that same jumper and jump across the red and white wires on the mounting plate. Again the furnace should start up. Have a helper jiggle the thermostat wires where accessible when the furnace is running and see if it remains on or shuts off. If everything checks out, replace the thermostat. Good Luck!

These new furnaces are trouble. Ive been in the htg trade for 25 yrs. The fan is running because they are now controlled by a timer instead of a temperature control. Rather than sensing a preset temperature and turning on the fan, it comes on by a preset time. Couple of things, does either of the doors have an inspection window? most newer furnaces have what is called a smart board. The board will flash a trouble code. ie: 1 long 2 short etc. #1 turn your thermostat to off, youll need 2 people for this! Go to the furnace, If it has the above mentioned inspection window ( usually about 2" round) while peering through the window have someone turn the thermostat to about 80 degrees. Let the furnace cycle and see if it flashes a code. If it does the codes are usually on the bottom door, May be on the inside. The most common cause is either a bad transformer, bad hot surface ignitor or pressure switch failure. Further questions feel free to ask. Steve

Amana furnace. The furnace goes through the cycle but wont ignite. I have already checked the ignitor.

Try blowing out the jet Burners with compressed air especially the one nearest the Ignitor. Right through where the gas comes in. These can get dusty and cause ignition failures. Also check to see if the Ignitor is in the path of the burner and has not somehow gotten bent. 100 or so ohms on the Ignitor should be good.

Furnace will not blow hot or shut off

The furnace has a fault check the furnace compartment for a flash code and check it with the code chart on the furnace door. Turning the power off to the furnace and turning it back on will reset the fault but it may happen again till you verify the fault and fix it.

It is most likely your hot surface ignitor. See if it glows when you first turn the furnace on and let me know.
