Question about Dell 924 All-in-One InkJet Printer

Dell AIO 946 software

I have recently re-installed Dell All-in One Printer 946, Drivers and Utilities for my AIO 946 printer. When I open the Dell All in one Center application and go to scan, copy or fax I get the message; Unsussessful: Try these solutions: Make sure power is on, Disconnect re-connect USB, Disconnect re-connect power cable, restart computer.
When click the Trouble shoot ?, it says; "Cannot find - C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\DRIVERS\w32X86\3\dlcihelp.hlp.file. - Try to find yourself" with YES or NO buttons.
I know my Power & USB is properly connect as I can print find directly from any document.

    After signing in as administrator and attempting to scan, copy or fax a window now opens which states ?DELL printer drivers not installed. Please reinstall printer drivers?. I have reinstalled the CD software/drivers and utilities several times over. Also it appears you have to sign in at ?run as? admin..each time you want to start the program because it always returns to the current user and at which time it gives me the first message about not being connected..Help please?..

    I uninstalled all associated software?.restarted computer and plugged in printer USB?.got the found new hardware message in task bar. I then got a ?welcome to the found new hardware wizard?, stating ?if your hardware came with an installation CD insert it now?. Only 2 options are given in the window, ?install software auto. (recommended) or install from a list or specific location (Advanced) (no third option).

    When I click the button option ?install from specific location? it gives me a new window ?Please choose your search and installation options? with a of 2 buttons options; First button - ?search for best driver in these locations? with 2 boxes to check, ?1. search removable media? plus ?2. include this location in search?. Second button ?Don?t search. I will choose the driver to install?. I browes to the removable installation CD to a drivers folder which 3 folder included a Scan, Scan x64 and Win_xp2k. I choose the scan folder. After installing it auto. begain installing the remaining software from CD. Same problem when I went to scan, fax or copy. I really don?t know where go from here.

    Somewhat...I kept - uninstalling and installing and it just finally started operating properly.

Hi there
When it prompts you to install the software choose Win_xp2k folder, this holds all the drivers for the printer, from there its pretty self explanatory and you will go through in a breeze

Hi,
The all in one solution software you used in XP doen't work with Vista. You need to download that driver Ginko suggests..

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie Dell 946) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.

    You can turn User Access Control off to get round the 'Run as Admin' problem. Control Panel > User Account > Turn UAC on or off, click and reboot..
    I've been playing with the Windows 7 Beta today and that problem has been addressed with a handy slidebar..

U will need to download the driver and reload as the current driver which is on your system is not getting detected by the operating system . Drivers, Software, lost C.D....come this way!  

If you have lost you cd or don't know how to install your printer then all you need to do is download the drivers and software from the manufactures website that suits your operating system and printer.

Un install all software relating to the printer. restart PC then just plug the USB to PC and when it shows found new hardware window:

first screen choose third option, for not connecting to net to search for driver then choose install driver from a custom location and browes to its CD directory and let it install driver only. dont install the rest of the software on CD, just the driver.

restart the PC and it should print. print test page then download the rest of the software on the CD restart PC and it should work.

    Do the following:

    Unplug printer USB.

    Download drivers from Your New Driver - Dell AIO Printer 946 - Windows drivers.

    Extract drivers.

    Just in case , instead of running the extracted installer file with double click, click the right button of mouse on the file, and chose "run as administrator", that is the last command on the drop down menu.

    The software setup wizard will tell you when to connect the printer.

    Ensure you select printer as default when asked by install wizard.

Dell all in one 946 will not scan to my Mac. Do i need to download a software?


Download the software directly from this site http://download.cnet.com/Dell-AIO-Printer-946/3000-2116_4-109339.html This will work for the MAC apple system as well. This site has free software so do not be concerned with paying once you see what you need.

I recently got a new Dell computer and kept my Dell AIO 922 printer, but now the icon is lost, I cannot scan. However, I can print, but that is about it.


Do you still have the Dell AIO 922 Drivers and Utilities CD? If so, you can reinstall it on your new Dell PC with the Drivers and Utilities CD. Although you are able to see this printer in your list, the other components are missing such as the scan and fax options. If you have already reinstalled it using the CD, you should see the All In One Center under the Start Menu/ All Programs/Dell Printers/Dell AIO Printer 922 and the All In One Center should be showing there. You can right click on the All in One Center and select "send to" and choose desktop to create a shortcut or icon on your desktop. Your options for scanning and faxing should be showing here. Hope that helps!

Original Maual can be downloaded from http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/prn946/en/index.htm Using Your Computer 1. Click Start® Programs or All Programs® Dell Printers® Dell AIO Printer 946.
2. Select Dell All-In-One Center.
3. The Dell All-In-One Center opens.
4. From the Send scanned image to: drop-down menu, select the program you want to use.
5. Click See More Scan Settings to customize your scan.
6. When you finish customizing your settings, click Scan Now.
7. When the printer completes scanning document or image, a file containing is created in the selected application.

Can't scan from my Dell AIO 946


OK, I can't believe I'm actually solving anyone's problem, but, this is what solved it for me. Following the instructions in my 946 AIO Owner's Manual, on page 87, there is a heading called Removing and Reinstalling Software. It says if your printer is not working correctly or if communication error messages appear, you can remove and reinstall the printer software. I did just that and my scanner is now back in service!!!! Hope this helps.

Black lines in display and printer will not turn off with on/off button


If your printer does not function properly, or communication error messages appear when using your printer, you can remove and reinstall the printer software.
  1. Click Start®Programs or All Programs®Dell Printers®Dell AIO Printer 946.

  2. Select Uninstall Dell AIO Printer 946.

  3. Follow the instructions on the computer screen.

  4. Restart your computer.

  5. Insert the Drivers and Utilities CD, and then follow the instructions on the screen.

If the installation screen does not appear:
    1. In Windows XP, click Start®My Computer.

In Windows 2000, double-click My Computer from your desktop.
    1. Double-click the CD-ROM drive icon, and then double-click setup.exe.

    2. When the printer software installation screen appears, click Personal Installation or Network Installation.

    3. Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.


      If the problem continues, the printer needs to be serviced.

Dell 946 AIO printer won't stop beeping after firmware update attempt


Same thing happened to me....yesterday I went online at www.dell.com to download the latest firmware & driver for my Dell 946 Printer. After downloading the firmware the printer went haywire and is rendered useless. It emits beeps and the green power light will stay lit then flash every 3 seconds or so. There is no read-out on the lcd display.
I phoned Dell only to be told I should not have downloaded the firmware and that Dell does not recommend downloading firmware. If that is the case then why is the firmware listed on the Dell site with instructions to do so? I was advised that no support could be offered because the printer is out of warranty and was told to uninstall the printer and re-install. I have tried everything, including uninstalling printer, unplugging printer, etc. and nothing has helped. I have researched online and note that this is a recurrent problem. This problem is noted in the forums section of Dell.com - I have followed directions listed in the forum section of Dell.com as noted (see below websites) but this has not fixed the problem....

Since this seems to be a known problem and the problem is actually caused by downloading firmware from the Dell site I feel it is an injustice not to offer some type of support to rectify the problem. I have always bought Dell products and advised others to do so, but with this problem I feel that I will be changing my brand that I purchase.

I will be contacting Consumer Reports - I feel this warrants some type of recall!!
