Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator
Changed to new water filter the fridge made water pipe slapping noise, dispensed water at a trickle. Swithed back to old filter, and it worked. I had another new filter put it in and it did the same thing as the 1st new one. Put the old filter back in and it is not working now either.

ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR APPLIANCE IS UN PLUGGED BEFORE TRYING ANY PROCEEDURES !!!!!! MAKE SURE THE WATER SUPPLY VALVE (SOMETIMES 1/4" SADDLE TYPE PEIRCING VALVE) IS NOT CLOGGED WITH SEDIMENT... THEN MAKE SURE THE WATER SOLENOID IS NOT CLOGGED AS WELL ... THE WATER SUPLY SOLENOID HAS A SMALL ORFICE THAT CAN BECOME PARTIALLY CLOGGED OR DOES NOT "SEAT PROPERLY" AND CAN CAUSE INSUFFICIENT WATER SUPPLY AND THUS ERRATIC OPERATION. A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF WATER DISPENSER AND ICE MAKER PROBLEMS ARE DUE TO INADEQUATE WATER SUPPLY. IT IS THE FIRST THING THAT NEEDS TO BE CHECKED !!!

We had the same problem. Our frigerator is 1.5 year old. Everytime we try to dispence water or ice the dispencer clicks and the whole thing turns of. We had a GE repairman come by: the electronic board needs to be replaced: total cost $350. (cost of the board only: $150. We are considering disconnecting the dispencer by unplugging the board (according to the repain man the ice maker wil still work)or buy a new refrigurator (for sure NO GE!!!!!!)

More than likely, your water line is freezing up in the door. You can remove all of the ice cubes and lower the freezer temp to about 3. Leave the freezer door open for about 5 minutes or so and if this does not work, leave the door open a little longer. Also, disconnect the water line at the base of the freezer door, near the floor, and press the dispenser lever. If you have water there, you most likely have a frozen line in the door. Changing the water filter often will help but it is not the answer and is can get quite expensive. By the way, Make sure to hold the dispenser lever forward for at least a couple of minutes each time you test for water flow. If you do not get water at the connector at the base of the door after you have disconnected the line, you have a problem with the valve in the back of the refrigerator.

There are two solenoid valves in the rear of the refrigerator. One that controls water for ice and one that controls water for door dispenser. If the water is not coming through when the button is pushed then have the proper solenoid valve replaced and enjoy. Hope this helps. good luck.
