On a mfc j65 10DW the colour only prints in lines

do you mean there are lines in the color printing? this sounds like the unit may need to be cleaned and the color cartridge/ toner/developer unit (depending on technology used) may need replacement

I have a all in one color LC61 printer, do all colors have to be filled to print blk only?

Greyscale is color not black only.
You can print in black and it will look grayscale only darker, printers are a pain to work with after a year has gone by, I can expect almost a half hour to print something with my $400 epson because one of the colors is out even though I never printed in the last year a colored page. I take the color cartirges out and they are empty, but I only print a page 2-3 times a year. I use the scanner all the time. Brother and epson have their print heads in the printer not the cartridge so make sure your inks are always have something in it or it will be miricle for the printer to last more than a year. Check colors every other week. One Epson printer only lasted 3 months because I never used it(print head dried up). Never use the set up with tubes running outside printer to small tanks of ink if you only use it occationally.

Brother MFC-J825DW false paper jam error

In my case that was registration actuator leaning to the side.
I was able to find it by removing back cover, and gently moving black plastic actuator to the side (stick).
It's prety well described in Brother "SERVICE UPDATE No. F1400" that I googled.
Good luck

I have a Brother mfc-8440. It prints light on the

Usually when it prints light on one side and normal on the other, it's either the drum (which you replaced) a dirty corona wire, or the toner is unevenly distributed in the cartridge. You can removed the toner cartridge and gently drop it from a distance of about 4-5 inches to dislodge any caked up toner. This is normal in a cartridge that has sat a while or if the fax machine is in a room with high humidity.
Hope this answers your question and best of luck.

Brother MFC-9840CDW. Print unable 29 error message. What do I do???

I got this error today. After examining the drum unit I saw one of the 4 drums (cyan) had a strip of sticky plastic wrapped around it, preventing it from turning easily. The plastic was from the drum unit itself. It held the cyan wiper pad in place. My drum unit needs to be replaced after 3300 pages. It was supposed to last for 17,000.

I have pulled out the color toners and am using it with only black until I get a replacement.

CARTRIDGE IS INSTALLED PROPERLY

Clean the rollers, reinsert the ink cartridges and reset the printer. Take a test page to ensure that everything works fine .

If you still have problem remove the print head and check the base whether it is clogged with ink. Clean it and place it properly and plug back the power chord to printer and take a test page .
This will solve your problem .

Brother MFC 7820N error message "back cover open" but cover is closed. machine is now not functional as error message can't be removed

If you open the back cover (depress the release button on the top right) If you lift it up look for two black anchors that grab the base when you close the lid. I have one that has a broken tab on the left side, which happens to be the same side as the cover closed switch. If the top is not closed all the way the rollers do not line up and the cover switch is not depressed to let normal operation. Also, if the switch arm is busted (case colored plastic push pin protruding from the cover) it will not make contact with the switch when closed. Try closing the cover and push down on left side of the fax. Does the error go away? If not, the actuator arm or the switch are bad.
