If you still have your manual, it should tell you all the places you should oil it. Otherwise you can find a manual online at
It's on page 43 (51 on the PDF)
Hope that's helpful!

How to fit my bobbing casing?

Use your hand wheel and turn it. Monitor under the throat plate. The part you see moving will eventually show an opening. Stop there and install your bobbin casing. If it has a little metal piece across you will have to lift it slightly. After it is snug you can install the bobbin.

Machine is 30+ yrs old and the tensions settings are ALL screwed up so it won't sew even tight stiches...need help setting all (3) tension dials...please help me!

Real Important: The objective is to even the top and bobbin tensions equally.
1. Remove bobbin case. Put bobbin in (rotating counterclockwise).
2. Put thread under the tension plate. Let the bobbin hang from finger and bob up and down lightly.
3. Adjust tension. The bobbin should extend one inch every time it is bobbed.
4. Put one drop of oil on race the bobbin case sets on top of. Replace the bobbin case and bobbin.
5. With the pressure foot up thread the top and give little tugs as you do this. There should be no snags or resistance. Make sure the thread goes in between the tension disc.
6. Now, put pressure foot down. Give a little tug to see if there is a resistance. Set the tension to four is a good start.
7. Try a piece of rag to sew. Set the tension on top to adjust for a perfect stitch.

What is the hook race

The hook race is the part of the bobbin assembly that revolves when the bobbing case is removed. You would put a small drop of oil directly on the inside of the part that revolves, then return the bobbin to its proper location. Hope this helps. You can also view a great video on youtube that shows you exactly how to take care of it.

Singer confidence 7470 while sewing the bobbing lifts up and makes a clanking noise the faster you sew. Any suggestions to this problem please?

It sounds like the bobbin is stretch. I fix mine taking a little screw driver (the one that comes with the machine) and turn the little bobbin case screw a tad to adjust the size of the bobbin carriage. Does the sound comes from the upper side of the machine or the under (bobbin) side of the machine? Did you oiled it correctly?
