Question about Mitsubishi WS-55315 55" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Just got a mitsubishi projection tv from a friend and ever since I hooked it up at my house it'll start up fine but whenever I hook up inputs (dvd player, games, dishtv etc.) they'll run for about a minute and then the tv shuts off.

Unfortunately I don't think that would adequately explain the problem. The tv works perfectly fine up until inputs are plugged in. I'll turn on the tv and be able to get a blue screen or a static screen without any problems and I can change around setting in the menu. When I plug in a dvd player or game system though, it'll still work but if I switch to the input that I'm using it'll change and show the movie or game working fine but only for a few seconds before the tv turns off automatically. It seems that active inputs cause the tv to automatically shut down but there's no apparent reason or sign of what triggers the tv to shut off.

I am fairly sure that this set has a cooling fan to prevent the meltdown of anything since there are parts that run very hot.
Listen at the rear of the set for any sound of a fan running.  If you don't hear one or is seems very quiet, the fan may have or may be failing and a thermal sensor is used to detect an overheating occuring. This would explain the shutdown of the set after a brief period.
If you find a failed fan, this may be a relatively easy DIY repair.

Might be tuned to the wrong output. The big tv has more than one input and is select able. Is there a blue ray selection for TV or input for that device.

This is 2003 model and does have a hard reset. It will return set to as it was when new in box, on air band on channel three, most likely you did something with remote that changed something.

I am in California and can tell you how to with the set on with the Mitsubishi remote enter the OPTION MENU AND RESET IT.

DO YOU WANT THIS INFORMATION?

A VERY HELPFUL RATING IN RESPONSE TO THIS SOLUTION WILL TELL YOU HOW TO GET INTO THE OPTION MENU.

Only one input works (component1) but no sound. the speakers are on, and when the volume is turned all the way up you here noise. input or no

make sure whatever you are hooking up to the input has a good output. Meaning....if you are hooking up a dvd player and it is playing a disc, make sure it has audio out of the dvd player usually the red for right channel and white for left channel. Also make sure in the menu on the dvd player you have analog audio selected so as to have sound coming thur to the tv. Keep in mind another way to check the audio of the tv is to use a mp3 player or your iphone.. Just need 1/8" jack from iphone to red and white RCA male jacks to hook to tv to test. Hope this gets you closer to solving your problem.

HOOK UP INFORMATION

The cable should be on the Input to RF connector. Then you should reprogram tv for cable channels. If you have dvd then it should go to the inputs for 1/2/3 A/V inputs yellow for video, red for right audio and white for left audio. Color coded! Hope this helps!
