Something is blocking up your air gap. Remove it and check it for obsruction or just replace it. The problum is only with the air gap and not the d/w.

Dishwasher smells like a dirty auto repair shop

Do you have an airgap valve on top of your sink or counter? Some times routed through an exterior wall. Their purpose is to prevent dirty water coming back into the DW and sitting. You can tell by looking under the sink as well. Your DW drain should never go directly to your garbage disposal or peetrap.

My lg dishwasher is giving an IE error msg.

Recommend that you follow the drain hose back from the drain to the dishwasher. Are you connected to a Sink-based Disposal or direct-connect to the drain?
The problem really can be that the drain hose has fallen and it never rises at least 30 inches above the floor that the dishwasher is sitting on. That causes a natural syphon effect, which drains the DW constantly, causing the dishwasher to believe it is leaking (which it is, through the drain hose.
Either install an AirGap valve and then properly connect it to the disposal or tie the hose up to the bottom of the counter to there is a rise between the DW and the drain.

Good Luck!

Model LD-14AW2 alarms after 1 minute of startup and says E1

The E1 error is telling you that there is a leak in the dishwasher. After confirming that there is no leak, even directly under the dishwasher (remove the kickplate and use a flashlight.)
After ruling that out, your problem is almost certainly caused by the drain hose between your dishwasher and your drain. There MUST be a 30" rise in the drain hose between the DW and the drain. If the hose just lays there, causing a siphoning effect (law of physics) that WILL drain water out of the dishwasher into the drain as soon as a wash or rinse cycle begins (after 1 - 2 minutes after they begin. Then the E1 error will be displayed.
The BEST way to fix this problem is to install an AirGap valve (almost free @ any hardware store) in your counter/sink and then running the short pipe to your disposal or sing drain inlet. If that is not possible or for a quick and dirty repair until you can install the AirGap, tie the drain hose to the bottom of the counter top so the rise is created.
Good Luck!

My bosch shu5315 cycles fine but when finished water is not draining completely. checked screen-cleaned-and problem still exists. Is it the heater? If so how hard to replace?.Note: remaining water fills...

check your airgap by the faucet of your sink. usually a metal cylinder is the cap. then you might have tabs to press in, or the top of the airgap can unscrew. usually i find stuff in there. mostly fishbones.. otherwise make sure the holes towards the bottem left of your dishwasher tub under your filters arnt clogged up. sometimes calcium gets in there a clogs those holes to the drain pump.

if no airgap then check that hole to the disposer. reach your finger in there towards where the dishwasher drain line is coming in and make sure that isnt clogged up.

Dishwasher draining into kitchen sink!

Is the water coming out the holes of the airgap "vent". If so, you have an obstruction from the hose that goes from the "vent" to the garbage disposer and is causing the drain water to back up. __________________

Draining

Make certain that the airgap is not plugged or obstructed at all. The airgap is the plastic thing that screws into the sink that the grey drain hose is connected to. I had an almond jammed into mine and it prevented the diswasher from draining properly. I took it out and cleaned it all out with a wire and then put everything back together. Problem solved after 10 minutes!!!

Airgap spills over onto sink every time we run the dishwashers

Hi Jose31,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: Kenmore Elite dishwasher.airgap spills over onto sink every time we run the dishwashers. what to do?

This is very common! In most states the airgap is no longer required for this very reason. It's one of those ideas that looked good on paper. In my state I remove it. If you have to keep it, thats OK. All is not lost. The real culprit is crud buildup in the airgap discharge tube. You would have to remove it and clean it and the fittings. And next year do it again. May not be as simple as it sounds. You might consider utilizing our Repair Directory to find a repairman.
