Question about Dyson DC28 Animal Bagless Upright Vacuum

When taking the handle/wand back to use it seems to lose the suction power regardless of what setting I use. Upon several times of standing it back up it seems to engage the suction power correctly is there a button or something that does not always engage to get power? can I fix it

When you say taking handle back I assume you mean the action to start rotation of brushes. Had simular problem and found by removing brush from tube and then cleaning "baked on rubbish" in plastic tube (so you can see clearly through tube) Clean with stiff brush and also making sure brush drive belt housing is also clean and allows brush to rotate square to housing did improve the suction power.
I assume you have cleaned all filters by wahing under running water and applying a little pressure to remove water and attached dirt?

Kenmore canisters are famous for melting the connection between the hose handle and the upper wand. They also sometimes melt between the lower wand and the power nozzle neck. Take it to your local vacuum repair center and get a diagnosis.

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

Most of the time the reason why the vacuum is not picking up is due to loss of suction. You may need to check for blockages of your wand and hose. Remove the wand and hose from your cleaner when checking for blockages and any damages. Make sure to turn off and unplug your vacuum from the power before doing this.

When vacuuming carpet with the electric power brush it will ocassionly , go to zero suction mode and shut off the brush. I have tried to cause it to happen by playing with the joint areas ( handle to tube...

You gave a good start to giving us good information to help you with solving this problem-- But I need a little more information:

It sounds like you have the Electric Motor driven Power nozzle/ Floor attachment-- am I correct? (Not the type that has a little vacuum motor down at the floor attachment-- Not one that depends upon air flowing thru the unit to power the brush, -- am I correct?)

You can control the motor with a switch at the handle-- correct?

So here is the question: - when you say "the electric power brush -- goes to zero suction" -- what tells you that it 'went to zero suction'?-- the little red flag on the vacuum?-- or what?

I am suspecting something might be caught up in the floor wand-- or at the power nozzle itself-- or even in the flexible hose. Do you know how to take the hose off, and place the hand-held end, in the opening in the Miele Vacuum? Can you do that, and clear out the hose first-- and then the hose with the want connected?

If they are all clear-- we may need to open the floor plate on the floor nozzle, and check for something caught in the air passageway--

Tell us more

Dyson DC17 Animal does not have enough suction from the wand handle to power the mini turbine head. The wand handle has very little suction.

My dyson 17 wand does not work. When it is on and you stand it upright it turns off

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

If the suction is good from the base but not from the wand, this would indicate that there is a blockage in the wand handle or hose. To test this, stand the machine upright and release the wand handle. Switch the machine on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If its poor, remove the wand handle from the hose and try the suction at the top of the hose. If its good here, then there is a blockage in the wand handle.

If the sction from the top of the hose is poor, you can remove the hose to check this for any splits or blockages. If it needs to be replaced, you can buy a replacement online at www.dyson.com.

No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards

Vacuum is losing suction

There are a couple of things you can do and it depends on whether you don't have suction from both the wand and the bottom of the
machine or just from one side:
1) First check the suction of the machine to ensure that the motor is still good - remove the canister and look for the two
openings/holes on the spine/frame of the machine - put your hand in front of the hole on the LEFT (higher than the hole on the right)
- if there is suction, continue the troubleshoot instructions, if there is no suction your motor may be damaged - call the Dyson
Helpline, they'll set you up with a repair with the closest authorized dealer in your area.
2) Check for blockages from the bottom of the machine. Remove the:
(i) U-Bend (stand behind the machine and look next to the right-hand-side wheel, it's attached with a rectangular clip next to the
long gray hose - push the clip and pull the U-Bend off, make sure its clear - if there's a blockage remove it and continue with the
blockage check to ensure that the entire machine is clear)
(ii) AI Valve (stand behind the machine and look above the right-hand side wheel, it's attached with two buttons on either side of the
AI Pipe/Valve - push the two buttons and pull the pipe up and off and make sure there is clear - if there's a blockage remove it and
continue with the blockage check to ensure that the entire machine is clear)
(iii) Refit the internal hose on the bottom of the machine between the wheels and make sure it isn't torn and has no holes in it and
that there is nothing clogged inside it - to refit the hose: Pull it off where it sits next to the wheel first - make sure that the
gray piece of rubber is still on the hose (if it isn't, pull the gray piece of rubber off the hole and reconnect it to the hose by
twisting it back on) - next, twist the hose off where it connects to the brushbar - inspect the hose and make sure you don't have any
holes in it - put it back on by twisting it onto the side of the brushbar first - then line the gray piece of plastic end up with the
hole next to the wheel and push and twist it back over the hole. Bring the machine back upright and test it
3) Check for blockages in the wand.
(ii) Wand - take the wand off the back of the machine - put one hand on the wand handle and one hand on the gray hose - pull the
handle and push the gray hose down, you'll see a metal rod being exposed, push the hose until it clicks into place - press the
half-moon shape button with a picture of a lock on it (found on the solid gray plastic end of the flexible hose) and separate the wand
competely - point the wand into the air or at a source of light (please don't point it at the sun) and look through the metal rod part
- the handle is bent but you should still see some light coming through the other end - if you don't, there is a blockage in the wand
- use a long object like a stick or a metal hanger to remove the blockage
(iii) Hose - no need to remove it - just stretch it out and make sure that there are no dark spots in the hose (those would be
blockages) - you can also through the top of the hose - if you don't see the ground at the bottom there is a blockage in the hose
4) If no blockages are found on the machine at all:
(i) wash the filter in cold water and leave it out to dry for at least 24 hours
(ii) blow out the cyclone from the bottom (open the door on the bin door - you can now look into the cyclone) - blow it out with an
air compressor or a leaf blower
(iii) Wipe all the small holes off on the cyclone with a dryer sheet
When the filter is dry, test the suction again. If there still is no suction on the machine, call the Dyson Helpline, they'll set you
up with a repair with the closest authorized dealer in your area.

My Dyson had exactly the same problem. I found the problem was caused by a blockage in the hose. Take the hose out where it joins the cleaner (it will come out if you pull it downwards gently) and take the hose out of the handle by squeezing the yellow buttons on either side. I pushed a rubber alkathene pipe down and found a piece of plastic was blocking it even though at first I was sure it wasn't blocked.
