Water accumulates in freezer

Drain hole is iced over. Cleared it once, but it froze right back. Why is there so much water in only 24 hrs? No visible signs of leaking.

Hi! when you clear your drain line add hot water and make sure it goes all the way down to your condensate pan next to your compressor also i trick is to put a piece to clothes hanger around the heating element of the frig into the drain line so when it goes into defrost heat will go down the drain line..Good luck..

Refrigerator is not cold but motor is running.

Hello and Welcome to Fixya,

This is one of the most common problems in most of the refrigeration appliances. What's going on here is that the condensate drain hole in the freezer gets plugged with ice. Once this happens, all the frost melted off the evaporator during subsequent defrost cycles can no longer drain and so spreads out on the freezer and dribbles down and also chokes other components. Here are the instructions that you need to follow inorder to get rid of the problem:

  • Unplug the refrigerator and pull everything outta the freezer, and I mean everything.
  • Remove the bottom panel inside the freezer so you can see the condensate trough in the back of the freezer.
  • Notice that the condensate trough is filled with ice- all that has to be cleared out.
  • Take it easy back there, delicate parts are exposed- don't start hacking at it with an ice pick because there are chances that you'll just end up puncturing the evaporator and you'll turn a simple, inexpensive repair into a majorly expensive one.
  • Use hot water to drain all the frosted ice that is visible.
  • Re-place all the units removed during the process.
  • Once all the ice is cleared away and the condensate drain opening is cleared, you are done.

I have a maytag refrigerator madel msd2456ge that I had serviced this srping for a problem that seems to have come back. The bottom of the freezer has a tray in the back that seems to collect water and...

the hose and drain pan at back btm of frz. should all be froze up. i would first clear all ice visible in back pan in frz. after that we use hot water to defrost any ice in hose. once that is done then yes u can blow it out with a vacuumm or compressor. do not take hose out . blow from inside frz or from behind rear of ref. we also run a 1/4 hose from inside frz drain hole down through the drain tube til it comes out the rear back.

There is no ice build up in the freezer, the water line is not hooked up, yet the refrigerator has water leaking down from the top of it. Why?

Remove the food from the freezer and remove icemaker , if equiped . Remove all screws on the rear panel , and remove the panel . Using a hair dryer , start defrosting the drain pan in the middle ( below the coils ) , until you see the drain hole . Once you see the hole , keep defrosting ( hot water helps ) , until water goes thru hole . Use a piece of tubing inserted into the hole to blow out any debris accumulated in drain line . Once cleared , remove excess ice in trough and reinstall panel and food .

General Elec. refrig. about 12 yrs. old. water in bottom of frig., cleaned up, found water a second time.

drain is cloged. at some point the ref section was set too cold. the defrost water from freezer drains through the ref back wall. becaust it was set too cold the drain froze. two ways to fix .... empty unit and unplug for 24 hrs. OR remove back panel, defrost drainrail, remove bottom panel ,remove ice, insert 1/4 inch tube down drain, and squirt very hot water down drain till it is clear of ice..... when defrosted set ref on "3"

I have a maytag MSD2754GR, the freezer bottom is all iced

The drian hole has become stopped up and ice has accumulated in the the drian hole. You will need to unplug the fridge and remove the cover on the back (located at the bottom, 6 screws). On the freezer side there is a drian hole with a rubber 90 and a clear line that runs to the drain pan. Remove line and unstop. Don't not put the line back on yet.

Now for the fun part, remove the basket and the two bottom shelves from the freezer. Half way up the back there are 2 screws that need to be removed. After removing screws pull up on the top cover to so you can remove the bottom cover. The bottom cover maybe froze to the coils and to the inside drain pan. Break the ice with a butter knife, and remove cover ( do not hit the coils). Now you need to break the ice that is froze to the the pan and under it. Once you have remove all the ice you will see the drain hole, use a small pointed object to break ice that is in drain hole. Now you can put the drain line back on and make sure that the other end is in the drain pan under the fridge. Now reassemble the fridge and plug it back up.

It took me about 20 minutes to do this.

Hope this helps.

Water "pouring" from freezer condenser

sounds like drain in freezer is clogged and has iced over

so when unit goes into defrost water leaks into freezer bottom and freezes

you can either shut off fridge for a day and let ice in drain melt
and hopefully clear line

or u can take back cover off freezer section pour hot water in drain pan and make sure drain hole is cleared and draining down to pan
