You have to remove the ink roll door, on the front left near the bottom. Pull the roller out with a tweezers, add a few drops of ink to the roll and re-install. No matter how careful you are, you will get some ink on your hands...

To reset you press a toothpick in the little hole on the left side in the back. If you have more errors, you can go to the dymo website and download the manual and see troubleshooting tips.

SOURCE: my dymo datemark stamper is
Mine was printing crazy also.
A couple of months a go a tiny tiny spring was on my desk, I saved it and what do you know it came from inside the stamper.
I removed the all the batteries and then removed the five screws in the back, opened and inspected.
The spring was from inside. The black piece of plastic that moves along the belt, on the right side of the that piece there were two little noggles one white and one black. Threaded the spring back in place and cleaned the little plunger space, so it would go up and down smoothly. Replaced the back, screws then the batteries and it is working better than when it was new.
I bet the spring came off in shipping, because I was really was never happy with the stamper since every once in a while it would print garbage.
If you do not have that spring, I don't know what one would do....Maybe the spring is just inside hanging around...I guess I was lucky that I kept the one I found.
No spring...send back to DYMO for repair.
