Cannot get DVD player to connect through Cable Box
I hooked up my new Samsung LCD TV (LN46A600) without trouble and it's mounted to the wall. However, when we turned on the DVD player (which is connected to the cable box, not directly into the TV), I couldn't figure out how to get the TV to recognize it. I don't want to have to connect another cable from the DVD player through the wall into the back of the TV, so I'm hoping there's a way to make this work another way. Please help!

the cable in should go to the box and cable out from the box to the TV.These should all be coaxial cables correct?Hook up the DVD player to the TV using the red, white, and yellow cables is also correct. In order to watch a DVD,you have to use the input select button on the remote for the TV ONLY to change inputs. If you have a universal remote for the TV and not the original factory remote provided with the TV,you need to use the menu button located on the outside of the TV.I just searched on my flat screen and was unable to find an input select through the menu button. It may not be possible on this TV if you do not have the original remote and if you own a universal. My universal for one of my older TV's is about 7 years old so I do not know if newer ones have an input select option. If they do not,it is most likely due to patents and royalty payments which these cheap remote makers do not want to pay.Anyhow, let me know if this helps.Just comment here and i will get an auto link to your comments.Good luck! first is this DVD recorder? its not okay plug the wires from DVD to tv (left / right and video -digital in or av1 in) cable box is connected to tv (red/blue/green) tv should be on component (source)...to view dvd switch to av1 or digtal1.......if this is a recorder get a coaxial cable and connect from cable box out to DVD in (the TV setup stays the same as above) DVD set up should be on CATV/ch 3..........the out connection is the same as a reg player (see above)
u have a cable/sateliite connection...cable from wall to cable box in...cable box out to vcr/dvd in....vcr/dvd out to samsung lcd in....(vcd/dvd and samsung must be tune to ch 3) now u should be able to record all channel (note HBO, and some others like it may not allow dvd recording) vhs yes.

New HD tv. Have digital cable box connected to tv., cable box connected to DVD recorder, but can't get setup menu to come up on tv screen. I had a similar problem. I have a HD tv connected to a digital cable box. I hooked up the DVD recorder with the wires it came with, but it would not play or give me the menu. However it was correctly hooked up. So the next day I connected a HDMI wire from the DVD recorder to the tv and everything works now.
cable from wall/outside to cable box in, cable box out to dvd/vcr in ...dvd/vcr out to tv...........set both tv & dvd/vcr to Ch 3......... note you will not be able to record (probably) HBO on to DVD (vcr yes)
Without knowing the actual ports on each of these devices, all I can suggest is that have you tried connecting your DVD to the Dish box (thru VCR scart connection at the back of the Dish box) and then the Dish box into your modulator (and then modulator into your tv.
I have a similar system set up but we have a Sky Digital box here, no idea if its the same as a Dish box but im assuming so.
