I'm sure you verified and formatted the HDD before you installed it and the replacement drive is the same type HDD. IF so you could try removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard , wait a few seconds, and re installing it. Can you get to the BIOS?

SOURCE: windows os

Its true. the Bios or HDD driver wont allow you to install Win XP on it.. This BIOS is compatible with only Win Vista. The only easy way to do it is by creating 2 partitions while installing vista. once vista is installed- install XP with Dual boot and than format the vista partition.

SOURCE: Cant install recovery disks after a hard drive reformat!

the recovery disk is designed to repair or restore a system to its previous factory condition and is not a full installation. the formating of your hdd would have erased all the data required for this process to be completed. you can try a recovery utility that may be able to help you at this link. the disk might not have been saved in an .iso format to tell the computer to run it before starting an OS. if this disk is recognized and runs on your system then you will need to attempt a recovery, which is unlikely since the drive has allready been formated many necessary system files may not be able to be restored. at this point a complete new install will be necessary.
Good Luck!

Either they put in a bad mother board or damaged yor DVD drive. Maybe they even put in the wrong unit. In any case I'd send it back to them.

SOURCE: Error 0x400 100 130000 1002 while restoring factory image HP

I am assuming you are trying to reinstall Vista. Apparently, HP's recovery partition is less than perfect and the recovery disc you created is probably worthless. (and you can NOT make another one, they only let you make one!) You are not the only person to have this issue.

Here are some things you can try:
1) Borrow an OEM version of Vista from someone...anyone. It sounds like you are proficient with PC's and maybe you know someone who works in IT. Use your product key (25 digit key code) and you should be able to reinstall.

2) if you like Vista, buy yourself an OEM version. It will not have all the factory (HP, Dell, Acer, whatever) BS on it. It will positively work because your hardware if fine.

3) Put XP on it. Personally, I think Vista is a mess. Microsoft is working on "OS7" and soon Vista will be like "Millennium".

Sorry it's not an easy fix, but glad your hard drive and memory show no errors.

I was given a IBM think pad 2626.My friend can't remember the password. What can I do?

There are three passwords used at a typical customer site:
the Setup password, the HDD password, and the Power
On password.
Ÿ Power On password:
1. Power off the computer.
20 ThinkPad 390E 2. Remove the battery pack and AC Adapter.
3. Remove the backup battery (RTC) for 20
minutes or use a screwdriver to touch the
backup battery (RTC) for 1 second.
4. Put back the backup battery (RTC).
5. Power on the computer and wait until POST
ends.
6. Verify that the password prompt does not
appear.
Ÿ Supervisor and HDD passwords:
The Supervisor password and Hard Disk password
(Hard Disk1 and Hard Disk2) are security features
that are used to protect the system and the hard disk
drive data from unauthorized access. No overriding
capability is provided, so it cannot be replaced if they
are forgotten. If the customer forgets the Supervisor
password, the system board must be replaced. If the
customer forgets the Hard Disk password, the hard
disk drive must be replaced.

Emachine T 5212, when i turn it on,, a siren sounds,,then computer shuts off

In your computer (as well as other gadgets), the battery powers a chip called the Real Time Clock (RTC)chip. The RTC is essentially a quartz watch that runs all the time, whether or not the computer has power. The battery powers this clock. When the computer boots up, part of the process is to query the RTC to get the correct time and date. A little quartz clock like this might run for five to seven years off of a small battery. Then it is time to replace the battery.

This does not explain why your computer would not boot, however. You would expect the computer to boot fine but have an incorrect time and date. The reason your computer would not boot is because the RTC chip also contains 64 (or more) bytes of random access memory (RAM). The clock uses 10 bytes of this space, leaving 54 bytes for other purposes. The BIOS stores all sorts of information in the CMOS RAM area, like the number of floppy and hard disk drives, the hard disk drive type, etc. If the CMOS RAM loses power, the computer may not know anything about the hard disk configuration of your machine, and therefore it cannot boot.

Many more modern computers are not quite so dependent on the CMOS RAM. They store the settings innon-volatile RAM that works without any power at all. If the battery goes dead, the clock fails but the computer can still boot using the information in the non-volatile RAM area. I would change the battery and make sure unit is unplugged and my other hand is touching the metal frame on the computer to stop static discharge. Blow out the inside of the computer completely.Start computer with case off and make sure all the fans run and don't sound like a siren.Replace anything not running. It may not boot if the BIOS can't see the hard drives. You might have to start computer and watch the screen and when it asks you to hit a key to get into like the bios do it and see if you can reset it. If nothing seems be running right maybe the power supply went out they are real cheep at Tiger Direct.

My probook is saying non-disk error how do i fix it

Re-install the Recovery Disc that came with you machine. Or unplug machine, take the battery out not the CMOS battery, and press the power button to discharge it. Then wait about 20 minutes or so and plug it all back in and restart the computer. You hard drive may have gone bad its telling you drive is not located. Which usually means one of two things. Went bad, is our of socket, you may have to purchase another Hard Drive if your recovery disc or Windows disk will not load. That is a sure way to tell.

Red light on on my Buffalo HD

Red ERROR LED The way the unit gives diagnostic codes is by long and short flashes of the specific light. The number of long flashes give the first of two numbers and the number of short flashes give the second. For instance, one long flash and three short flashes would indicate an error of 13 -
E 00
(No light, beep only) - MPU error E 01 DRAM data line error E 02 DRAM address line error E 03 RTC chip error E 04 Flash rom error E 10 UPS power loss E 11 fan error (RPM too low or not functional) E 12 cooling error (unable to remove heat by the fan) E 15 disk error E 16 unable to locate internal HDD E 17 Unable to communicate with the RTC chip E 21 unable to communicate with the Phy chip E 22 mount error. The original Buffalo firmware has the following error messages based on the number of flashes:
3 Partition problem with hard drive. Reformat the hard drive. 4 Fan problem. 5 ROM problem. 6 Hard Drive can not be recognized. 7 Problem with motherboard (RAM, LAN, or Hard Drive controller). Exerted from http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Information/LSProLED

I hope this has been helpful, unfortunately without more information I cannot help any further.

It's giving me a disk error... A disk error occurred press alt, ctrl, and delete to restart and when i do that some message pops up.

There is a problem with your hard drive. Try taking the hard drive out, remove the battery, push the power button for approx. 10 seconds. Re-install the battery and re-install the hard drive. If the same message comes up again, try to boot the computer off a windows installation disc. If this all fails, you just may have lost your hard drive.

Setup does not detect any hard drives

This error means the operating system on the hard disk couldn't load due to possible faulty hard drive or disk controller. The fault could also mean the hard drive needs reseating to make proper connection. Reseat the hard drive and if you still get this error, then you need to determine if the disk controller is faulty.
To do this, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer see this hard drive as an external drive and you can also see the contents of the drive, then the hard drive is OK and the fault is a faulty disk controller. If the computer cannot detect the hard drive then the hard drive is faulty.
Then get a new hard drive insert it into youe laptop and install Windows to get your laptop operatioal.
