Check to see if the software drivers are loaded for the network adaptor. Go to "Device Manager" and look if any yellow or red alerts are being displayed next to network adaptors. Double click on the network adaptor and a window will pop open telling you about the error. You can access the "Device Manager" by going to the 'Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Computer Management" and select "Device Manager" located in the left side column, (assumption – laptop has Windows XP).
If you need drivers, go to www.support.dell.com and select "I'm looking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have the proper version of Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installed return to "drivers and downloads" and enter the "service tag", (serial number) of the computer. Dell keeps a listing of drivers for every customer's computer they sell.

Best thing to do would be to order one from the manufacturer, even if you could find it online that's illegal, and with this specific of a thing you probably won't find an iso.

My comp doesnt instal xp.a hard disk error appear after loading files.systemroot>system32>config.i had instaled 2 copies of the said xp sadly i mistakenly deleted part of the xp.help coz my comp is...

you need to do this on a brand new low level formatted, and high level formatted hard drive. you must have the install disk, and a internet connection, and a properly running system available to work along side.

You can reformat this old drive; however, personally, I wouldn't bet on using it. hard drives are cheap these days. let me know.

My computer drive crashed. How can I retrieve the data?

If the operating system program was all that crashed, then yes, you may be able to recover data. If the hard drive itself failed totally, then your only possible option is to take it to a data recovery specialist. They can often recover data off these devices as they have special tools and software to do it. They are expensive, though, so unless the data you are looking to recover is very important to you, it;s probably not worth the cost. Now if the hard rive itself still runs, but just won't run Windows, you can remove the hard drive and connect to to another PC as an add-on drive and access the files that way.

Just got a refurbished HP Pavilion DV7-4165DX laptop. Right out of the box it blue screen crashes and continues to do this several times a day. I have used the backup partition to reformat/reinstall...

One of the main reasons for blue screen crashes is a faulty device driver.

RMB click "My computer" - LMB "Manage" - LMB "Device Manager" and look for yellow question marks in the device listing. If you find one, said device driver needs attention.

To find drivers for you laptop, go to the HP website, follow links for support and downloads entering details of you laptop and operating system as you go.

It may be worth the trouble of updating you drivers to the latest versions anyway.

Computer says , OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND

Your hard drive is either crashed or corrupted. You might try checking the bios to see if the drive is showing up. If it is, you can try a repair or a reformat. You will need your restore disk(s).

Boot off the disk and follow the instructions.

Moving the laptop while it's accessing the hard drive or improperly shutting down the computer can corrupt the drive. If kids use it as well, it is a good idea to keep your backups current...you do back up, don't you?

System will not boot

If you have special data on the drive(pictures) then use the freezer trick.(I'm not gonna go into details google it) If not, then you should just reformat the hard drive using the CD that the laptop came with. Remember to go into the BIOS and change it to First Boot Selection: CDRom drive. You should be able to delete the old partition and then create a new one, then install windows. If none of this works, contact Acer.

Blue screen with rows of white lines (not BSOD) causing laptop crash

A blue screen generally indicates an operating system error or hard drive failure. Start by doing a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't take, then reformat the hard drive and install a new operating system. If the hard drive won't format, or you have any issues during or after the install, then the hard drive has failed and will need replaced. You will need an operating system or recovery disc in order to do this. If this is a preloaded machine that didn't come with any discs, then you will need to acquire the disc.
