TV or Satellite Box Problem?

Hi everyone! This morning while watching the news before work, my TV screen suddenly went completely black. The sound, however, remained on. I waited and then the picture came back. I then attributed this to the TV station having "technical difficulties." I changed channels and everything seemed okay. I went back to my original channel and it happened again. Black screen, with sound only. I didn't have more time to play around with other channels as I had to leave for work but I did put the same channel on in the other room and it was working fine. My question is could there be a problem with the one satellite box or do you think it is the TV itself? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Re: TV or Satellite Box Problem?

Do you have a VCR or DVD recorder? If yes, set it to record what you are watching. After a "blackout" rewind the tape and review it. If there is a blackout on the tape, the problem is the sallite box, if not, it is the TV! QED

Where is the dodge tool?

Dodge tool should be on your toolbar- its like a black circle with a little line coming down diagonally from it- shares a button with sponge and burn so may be hidden behind them. Left hold click if it is that should bring up a little drop down that will let you select the tool you need.

Other than that, a much much better way to dodge/burn is to use layers- go to layers (top of the screen beside file, edit, etc)
select new->layer- this should open a box.
Now- set the colour drop down to none
Mode drop down- Set to soft light, feel free to experiment with hard light etc
Tick the soft light neutral colour (50%grey) box- should be at the bottom of the box.
Set opacity to somewhere between 5 and 10 %.
Click OK

This puts a new layer over your image, now you can use the paint brush- set your colours to black and white, you use white to dodge black to burn.
Though this may sound complicated, it soon becomes second nature once your used to it and gives you alot more control of your dodging and burning- leaving you with a much more 'natural' image. Once you get the hang of it you can add new layers (using the same process i went through above) to slowly build up your dodging and burning- changing the opacity level in the layer box to a higher setting means you put more paint on the image- your burning will be darker, dodging lighter.
Using mulitple layers also allows you to take away a dodge layer if you think you have gone to far- and saves you stepping backward when you mess up- its almost like painting.

Anytime Windows Media Player starts to display a video of any type, the screen will blink black 2 or 3 times and then the screen goes completely black and I have to hold in the power button to restart the...

It sounds like you have a problem with your video card & it may need to be replaced but try updating the drivers before you do anyhing else. You could even try a clean install of your operating system as this will be chaper than buying a new video card. Sometimes things just stop working & I'm afraid the most likely thing is that your video card has died.

You need to have a converter or software to run .avi file.

Download the above mentioned software that i found for you.Once downloaded, you would be able to run files/movies with .avi extension.
