SOURCE: shower head leaks water when water is turned on

take out the cartridge from the fixture and make sure it has all of the "O" rings and stoppers.
look at the instruction again, make sue you are installing it the right side up. if all that, the shower still leak, then you need to talk to the place you brought the fixture, it may have a defective cartridge.

SOURCE: no cold water from Moen 2253 tub/shower valve,

Here is a quick check to see if the cartridge may be at fault allowing the cold and hot to mix. Turn off the hot water supply, with hot water supply off turn faucet on. Turn to the hot and cold sides, If you have only cold water then your faucet cartridge is at fault or the cartridge housing is worn. Shut all supply valves and remove cartridge and inspect housing for signs of wear. If wear is visible a new shower valve is needes. If none visible replace cartridge. I have included a link of a PDF file an exploded parts list. I hope this helps in solving your problem. Please rate if the answer helps in any way. Good Luck and have a great week. Jeff

it sound's like you need to replace the tub spout.there should be a set screw on the bottom of spout loosen and twist off. replace with moen spout for ease of re-install.it's a real pain in the *** to try and replace -o- ring spout.

Why does the water not flow from shower valve when turned on?

Do you have water coming out of the tub spout and not the shower head? If so how does the water get directed to the shower head,is it by pulling up the diverter on the tub spout? If water is still coming out of the tub spout then the diverter is bad and the tub spout needs to be replaced.

To talk about your problem forces me to assume a few things.....If you allow the water to flow without cartridges and handles, the water must be flowing straight through the cartridge channels and out into the tub. It is not flowing through your tub spout or shower head when you test the water this way. If I'm correct, then the problem is isolated to the water mix operation. That means coming out of your spout or shower head. So now I have to ask a question. When you operate as normal (cartridges and handles installed) does your problem show up only on your shower head or does it also show up when operating out of the tub spout? If the problem is isolated to the shower head, try a head replacement. It may be partially plugged. If it's head or spout there may be something in the mixing pipe that only shifts around as pressure increases. I hope that is not your problem. It would require pulling those pipes out for inspection and most likely replacement. Nimsgame

It is not uncommon for one or more faucet devices to go haywire immediately after a water heater change out, especially if the cold water line to the water is galvanized metal pipe and is quite old. while this scenario is the most common, it is not the only possibility. Sometimes it's just plain coincidence in the timing of events.
I would remove and replace the #1222 cartridge, inspect it for obvious debris from the heater replacement, briefly turn the hot water supply on to flush out any possible debris in the valve body itself, then reinstall the cartridge. Valve flushing should always be done before any cartridge gets reinstalled.
If the problem persists, the diverter on the tup spout would be my next focus. Again, debris from the heater replacement could (but far less likely) have affected its function. While not as easy to remove and exactly replace, by taking it off...then turning the water on, you will be able to observe the flow difference..With no difference the problem is in the valve and the cartridge should be replaced....with significant flow difference the, replace the tub spout. Be sure to take the tub spout with you, if it's the problem, when you take it to your plumbing supply store so it can be matched to a replacement. There are many tub spouts for many situations.
Search this site for Moen cartridge removal procedures. I have posted numerous solutions.

I would look into the spout being the issue. The spout is a bypass when the shower is on and yours seems to be letting water get through. I would replace the spout..

Delta T13090 faucet shower head working at the same time.

The only possible explaination is that the water is finding it easier to go up than down. Water is lazy, just like me. ;)

Use an allen key to remove the tub spout. It's underneath and awkward. Once the allen key is loose, the spout just slides off. Try running the water. This may solve your problem and all you'll need is a new tub spout. If not.....

Turn the water off to the house.

Use an allen key to remove the handle.

Use a phillips to remove the trim plate (2 screws). Cut the silicone around the trim if it's there (which, in a proper installation it shouldn't be, but...)

Unscrew the nut (usually chrome) holding the cartridge into the brass body of the valve. The cartridge pulls straight out. Check for restriction in the ports of the cartridge itself. Check for restriction in the line going down to the tub spout. If you can't find anything, replace the cartridge.

Reassemble & Enjoy!

Price Pfister Shower--No water to shower

Does the tub spout water flow stop when the shower knob is pulled?

Was the systems pipping flushed before the shower head was installed?

It may be clogged, remove the shower head and then attempt to operate. If it is clogged you will see debris trapped in the screen at its connection point. The shower head can be disassembled - cleaned - reassembled

Is the shower head an adjustable type, that may be in the off position?

Good luck
