You will need a few items to get data off of your old Hard-Drive.
If you have already removed the old hard-drive you'll need something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-30504-Serial-Adapter/dp/B000UO6C5S/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1352401035&sr=1-2&keywords=sata+usb+adapter

to attach to another machine to extract the data.

Your old HDD will act like a external hard-drive and you can retrieve your data that way.

Hope that helps

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

SOURCE: Seagate momentus 3 60gb problem

What software did you use for the cloning?
Ghost is the preferred method.
Be sure to choose a disk to disk clone, not a partition clone.
It sounds like you may have created a 20G partition and left 40G unallocated.
Partition Magic may also take care of the problem, if you have access to a copy.

SOURCE: I just pulled a 2.5

you should download Seatools on a working machine.....its a diagnostic program for Seagate drives.

Let it scan the drive in question, because it sounds like it could possibly be bad. The jumper settings dont come into play when hooking it up via usb!

If you have the old hard drive , hook it up to your computer as a secondary unit and boot up with your new replacement. Then using windows explorer access the secondary drive, retrieve the files you want and either transfer them to an external usb stick or create a directory on your new drive and transfer them there until you can get a fresh copy of your program installed on new drive.

Fix pc hard drive

Did the drive crash? Is the computer not recognizing the drive? If so your files are gone unless you want to spend over a grand trying to get them retrieved.

If the computer recognizes the drive but you don't see your files, then a virus has just hidden the files. They are there and retrievable, just hidden.

I have an hp pavilion 7840 that says "operating system not found"

It is quite possible the hard drive froz. Look in the Bios to see if it says there is a hard drive connected. The firs thing to try is to hook it up to your laptop with a usb wire made to handle the type of drive you have ide/sata sometimes you will be able to retrieve your infor from the disk that way.
One recent savior I read about is to try to put the hard drive in the freezer(sealed in 2 zip lock bags) for 6-10 hours and then try it as sometimes the contraction of freezing will free it. If that works get your info off FAT as you don't know how long it will work for.

Ntldr is missing for my dell inspiron 1545. ow can I resolve this? Help!

Best way to solve this is to reinstall your operating system. You don't need to format your hard drive so you're files will still be there. However, not all files may be retrieved and programs might not work properly.

But if you don't have any important files, you can do a clean install and it will definitely resolve this issue.

Over a year ago my acer 5315 laptop stopped working as im not sure why since then i have brought a new laptop, but on the acer it has some old docs and stuff

Ti retrieve the data from your old laptop, remove the hard drive and insert the hard drive into an USB hard drive adapter and then connect it into the USB port of your new laptop. Your new laptop will see this as an external mass storage device and you can then open the various folders and files on this hard drive to copy or view them.
If your new laptop cannot detect this hard drive, then the hard drive is faulty.
If you desparately need the data off this old hard drive then there are companies that can retrieve data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you and arm and a leg for their services.

This is a common problem with external drives, I have had it happen to Segate, WD, and a few off brand drives. Usually when one of these drives gets flaky, you have 2 options:

1. do a google search on your particular model on how to remove the drive from the case, then install in a desktop computer
2. use disk recovery software to attempt retrieval of files

The first on will work if there is a problem with the driver interface to usb board that is built into your device. By installing in a desktop, you are bypassing this potentially bad part. This step will also make the 2nd option run faster if you have to resort to it.

A good rule of thumb on these devices is to never have only 1 copy of the data.

Good luck retrieving your data!

How do I get the saved files from my GoFlex on my new computer

You should be able to just plug it in to USB and read them since the harddrive has aleady been set up and used. The new machine should read it just like it will read a thumb drive you've saved files on. This is one of the big reasons why people like these external drives :) You can take them with you and use on another computer.

Have u considered switching and installing a new hard drive and using your old one to retrieve your files (if u have any important files) ?

If you want to start from scratch, you can always buy a new HD [super cheap like $40 per 320 GB] THEN, since you say u have WXPSB and the disc for the laptop [with all the component drivers], I don't understand why you haven't just done this already?
Who cares about a system restore! If it's that bad, then just dont use that as your main HD.
I can show you how to access all your data..... as long as your HD is operational, the data is in there. That virus just makes important stuff into hidden files and directories. Stop giving permission to programs without reading the terms..you'd be amazed to read what you're agreeing to sometimes!!
Cheers, mate!

No power to hard drive Fujitsu lifebook laptop

The new hard drive will not have an OS on it until you install one, so expect a no OS found message.

The old hard dirve may have lost its master boot record or the boot cylinder is bad.

You mentioned DOS. Do you have bootable DOS diskettes available?

First plug the old drive into the desk top and copy off any data you wish to save.

Depending on the operating system on the desktop and utilities available you might be able to recreate the master boot record on the old drive. Be very careful you know which drive is which or you could cause problems with the desktop drive.

You might also be able to run DISK MANAGER and test the drive for errors.

If you can boot the DOS diskettes the command you need to run is FDISK /MBR with the old hard drive installed.

Sorry, I really need a lot more info to be more specific.
