Question about HP Pavilion zd8000 Notebook

1 Answer

My HP zd8000 can boot up normally under window XP but then it turn the screen black without to give me the chance to log in. I already tried those following steps: 1- I disconected all USB devices 2- I swapped the 2 RAMs cards 3- I replaced the internal disc 4- finally I tried to recover the system with a previous Audacity image of my PC qll without success. By the way I have also installed Linux on a second partition. It does nearly the same problem. The system can log me properly but after a while the screen will begin to fill with graphical lines then the PC will hang or scratch . Otherwise I use my PC without battery since the battery died for more than 2 years. Questions. 1- can the BIOs or the boot loader cause this trouble? 2- Do you think an HW problem? Many thanks in advance for your help

A blacked-out screen doesn't necessarily indicate a broken monitor.
If the computer has run out of charge or is in hibernation or sleep mode,

if the screen is too dark, or if the display cable has come disconnected from the motherboard, the screen may appear black or fail to turn on.

To fix a blacked-out laptop screen, troubleshoot the screen settings, check the LCD connector and see if the computer is awake and receiving power.

Touch the touchpad or move the external mouse to see if the computer is asleep or hibernating. If the computer fails to respond, press "Enter" on the keyboard.

Press the power button if the screen remains black.

Confirm that the power indicator light, found at the front of the computer or above the keyboard, is glowing solid green or blue.

Confirm that the power adapter is plugged into the computer and into a wall outlet. Confirm that battery indicator light is glowing solid green or blue.

Hold down the "Fn" key. Press the up-arrow to see if the screen brightness increases.
Some computers also use the "F6" or "F7" keys to increase screen brightness.

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off the laptop.
Remove the AC adapter from the computer, close the screen, and then turn the PC over.

Slide the battery latch to eject the battery. Pull the battery out of its compartment.

Turn the computer back over, open the lid, and insert the edge of a flathead screwdriver or other flat, solid object beneath the bezel above the keyboard.

Wedge the edge of the keyboard bezel off of the top cover.
Work your way along the edge of the keyboard bezel to loosen it.
Pull the bezel off the laptop.

Trace the cable coming from the laptop screen to the connector found beneath the bezel. Reconnect the display cable to the motherboard if the cable has come loose from the connector.

Line up the tabs on the bezel with the slots along the top of the keyboard. Insert the right edge of the bezel into the gap above the keyboard, and then push the bezel back in place.

Turn the computer back on.
If the laptop screen is still blacked out, connect an external monitor to the video port on the side of the PC to confirm that the video card isn't defective.

If the external monitor works, the LCD screen could be broken.

If the monitor doesn't work, the motherboard or video card might need to be replaced.

hope this helps

SOURCE: New HDD inserted into Pavilion ZD7000 - will not boot from XP CD

Try your old HDD in it and see if that works. If it does work then nothing is damaged except your DVD drive/Controller. Try putting the new HDD in another computer, installing windows then putting it back in the HP. If all else fails then flash the bios with an updated image and see if that rectifies the problem.

Black screen on booting my Compaq 610 notebook

If it seems like you're accessing the hard drive (drive light comes on, flickers intermittently, then goes off, it's a good chance your screen is bad.

First thing to do is plug in an external monitor and start up the laptop. If it comes up with windows, you know it's the screen.

To find out if it's the backlight, or the lcd, toggle the monitor function and shine a flashlight on a slight angle to the screen. If you can faintly see what was displayed on the external monitor, then the backlight inverter is probably bad.

If the external monitor didn't come up, you're probably looking at a motherboard.

The good thing is that all of those are covered for one year under Compaq's warranty, on a new machine.

If you are able to use the external monitor, back up your data, because HP/Compaq usually reformat the harddrive. Additionally, if you've added memory, pull the cards. They want it sent back the way it came from the factory.

Acer AL1914 black screen, green light

it sounds like a deleted driver? try getting the driver for the monitor, did you loose the Operating system at some point, if so try a system restore to a date when the computer was working properlly prior to the malfunction. It sounds like it restored you to a time before the driver for that monitor was installed.

Window will not boot up

IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT SEQUENCE IF BIOS CANT FIND 1ST DEVICE IT GOES TO NEXT AN SO ON,
TRY THIS.BOOT UP GET A FAR AS YOU CAN GET THEN PRESS AND HOLD THE POWER BUTTON(ABOUT 5 SECS)
THEN REBOOT.
IF THIS DOESNT WORK BUT YOU CAN GET TO THE WINDOWS SCREEN PRESS CTL+ALT+DEL AND CHOOSE LOG OFF THEN IN NEW SCREEN SELECT LOG ON.
IF THAT DONT WORK REINSTALL OS NOT REPAIR.
WHEN YOU GET TO THE INSTALL PAGE SYSTEM SAYS OS ALREADY INSTALLED CONTINUE TO INSTALL OR REPAIR .AT THAT STAGE EITHER CARRY ON AND INSTALL FRESH COPY OR REPAIR.

Zd8000 wont boot up

try to get into SAFE mode... tap F8 repeatedly when you first power on. You should get a safe mode boot menu, select last known good profile and press enter.

If this does not work reboot go into SAFE mode and select Safe Mode from menu and see if it will boot up.

You may get a pop up to use system restore, say yes, select restore to an earlier date (or similar) then use the calander to select a restore date that is PRIOR to the problem starting.

If this does not work boot to safe mode again and say NO (cancel) to use system restore and see if you can get to the desktop
