Question about Printers & Copiers

J6450 will not print

The printer is on i can copy but i can not print from the computer. I have made sure all cables are connected to computer and printer, but to no avail. Computer screen says printer not activated. I have used this printer since May 2008. I printed a document on Jan. 1, but it would not print on Jan 2.

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.

uninstall the printer driver then connect it with computer if computer detect the printer then install it and print the documents.

When installing the printer click on local printer and uncheck the box below it. I think it says something like locate my device. then on next screen click create new port, you should see USB001 in there.

Hi Good day!!! i will try to help you. 1st try to pull out the usb cable that connects your printer and the computer, turn on the printer and check if the unit still printing of it's own. if not the problem is on the printer software. please reply i will try to help.

Printer is not printing - i have started, restarted diagnosis tests, changed the ink, uninstall and installed program. I have a Lexmark X2600. It says that it's ready; but still doesn't print? what else...


Check the USB cable to make sure it is connected, then restart your computer. Sometimes the computer registers it on a different USB port. When you go to print look at your printer options, is there a Lexmark and a Lexmark (copy 1)? Try printing from Lexmark (copy 1) if it is showing. If there is still a problem, try putting the print on another computer, to see if the printer is malfunctioning. If that is the case, you'll need to get another printer.

try an updated driver for the printer (download it from the HP website). Its possible that the current software installed on your computer may be incompatible with your OS. Be sure to uninstall the current software before doing this. It could also be that you have a bad cable connected to your printer.

J6450 Prints multiple copies


After spending a lot of time on the net looking for an answer I decided to spend some time to see what was different betweent the computers. It turns out that the 2 computers that I was having the problem on had Zone Alarm installed and the 3rd computer that it was working on did not. So I dug around in Zone Alarm and marked every HP software item as allowed. I then rebooted the computer and submitted a test page to the printer. Low and behold 1 copy as I wanted. I proceeded to test it some more and now am only getting one copy when I ask for one. The problem appears to be that Zone Alarm was messing it up. I still have Zone Alarm running, I just needed to mark HP as an accepted program under every listing in Zone Alarm.

Switching from copy to print from computer


If you look carefully at the printer you'll note that there is no button for "Print" and the reason for this is that all the other functions are for using the printer as if it wasn't connected, nor needed a computer.

All your printing functions that DO use a computer require you to interact with the printer via the computer.

In short, to use the printer from the computer you'll need to make sure you've installed the correct drivers (see your installation CD or the Canon website) and then plug the printer in using a USB cable connection to your computer. If the computer recognises the printer you'll then be able to print.

In a nutshell if your printer is connected and drivers installed properly it doesn't matter what your printer has selected on the printers own control panel, you just print :)

make sure that when you go to copy make sure that it is on the printer you are wanting and make sure that it is set to printer and not fax.
