Thank you for your time. I appreciate your help. Your response is consistent with my experience of removing screws and trying to access the fuser without jeopardizing/damaging any components.
This afternoon, Tech support at Xerox avoided the fuser access issue entirely by offering to replace the printer within three days under my existing warranty. I have only to remove my cartridges and place them in the new unit. This is most certainly an equitable solution and one that acknowledges the good sense of your evaluation: It was just too ambitious a task for this rookie.
