Hi kantraman,
The main reasons of your problem is the bulb which is already came to its end. The unit will automatically shuts off when it sense a bulb failure. But before you replace the bulb I would advice you to work first on itspower supply. Look for open fuse/fusible resistor and spot some bad solder joints. This will do the same symptoms like what it showing now. If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments, and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Don't attempt to work in the power supply if you don't know the safety precaution of handling it, there some stored electricity enough to hurt you with a little mistake only.

The lamp is usually located at the side of the tv.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya

Have a mitsubshi model no vs-5017s tv turns on sometimes.sometimes just clicks goes off when trying to turn on.i think it might be the timer but dont know how to reset.help

If it is the timer, the timer would be found in your menu, and it would have a minute timer showing on the screen. Otherwise you proabably have the all-to-common power supply failure. It can be tested with voltmeter. You can test the capacitors in the power supply with a capacitor tester. These capacitors due tend to go way more quickly now days.

timer on tv starts counting only when its kept idle for 5sec. that is you dont touch the remote or the front panel keys.
so its not a problem with the timer.

There is a tiny reset button to the left of the timer light. Press with a pin or something small, wait 60 seconds. Viola!

Black screen and red timer light is on

It may be the problem of the Dish connection or stablizer. Remove the stablizer and connect the Tv direct to switch board and re connect the dish connection. Then switch on the TV it will work.

Some say you can reset the timer in the service menu, normally accessed by holding down the menu button on the TV and the mute button on your remote at the same time. Others say you need a special "service remote" to access the timer. I've changed my bulb twice already and have just learned to ignore the amber lamp timer light. A little square of black electricians tape would make it go away!

I had a half power outage where everything turned half off, how I still dont know. Anyways I unpluged it and didn't plug it back in until the next day. When I did the timer light was blinking for an hour. I unpluged it for a couple hours more, then I plugged it in and waited for 1 min, unplugged it and repeated, then I plugged it and unplugged it 3 or 4 times in a row, plugged it back in and waited. 1 min. then poof the tv worked. YAAAAAA HOOOOOO!!!!
