Question about VillaWare 5800 Classic 4 At-A-Time Waffler

Waffles sticking and separating

Hi,
I have a VillaWare 5800 classic waffler.  Waffles are sticking and separating instead of remaining intact.  I tried coating the grid with oil before placing waffle mixture, but it doesn't seem to be helping.  Any suggestions?  Thanks for your time and energy.

Need directios to use. waffle sticks to top and bottom

If it is a non stick waffle iron don't use a spray coating.
If it is a uncoated iron it is normal for them to stick for the first few uses. If you already have waffles stuck in the iron coat the stuck areas with cooking oil and reheat. Use a wooden or bamboo sewer to pick out the remains. Use cooking spray to coat the grids before cooking waffles. Try a different recipe. Some are more forgiving and don't stick as easily.

The waffles stick and separate when I open the top

You really have to use a release agent, like pam. Waffles have a ton of surface area that needs to release.

How to clean the stove top waffler & keep waffles from sticking?

Best wasy to keep waffles from sticking is to spray the maker with a non stick food spray like "PAM". The other way is to increase the amount of oil in the batter, but that can affect the finished look.

How long to cook and at what temp

There is not exactly a specific time. It all depends on how you want your waffles. I have been making waffles for years. set the temp to about 3 quarters as high as it will go. A lot of it just takes practice. Put the batter in and give it a few minutes. Check on it very quickly. It will most likely not be golden-brown yet so give it as much time as you think it needs. be careful not to open it more than 2 times or they will not turn out right. I have a great recipe for waffles too if you want it. Hope this helps.

Waffle iron top not heating

I don't know for your model type, but in many of these the heating element can be replaced. Check with an ohm meter to know if the element is actually defective, or if it is the thermo safety cutoff fuse that is blown.

If you were to do this yourself, and you know about appliance servicing, have instruments to check for proper temperature and current draw, and you will need the proper crimp-fittings (stake-ons), and crimp tool to do any of the wiring inside.

Salton Belgium Waffle Maker

I, too, was searching for that wonderful Belgian Waffle recipe and thought, no problem, I'll just look on-line. I couldn't believe it when Salton didn't have it posted on their site (if they did, I couldn't find it) and was taken to your requests for the recipe. So, I went the whole mile, or should I say traveled over mountains of files, and couldn't believe that my filing system still works after all of these years, the Salton Belgian Waffle Maker & Recipe Guide for Model No. WM-4 was right where it was supposed to be. (And my husband, and prior bosses I should add, have laughed at how I save and file everything. I'm glad I can share this with you all now...

Basic Belgian Waffle Recipe
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 cup milk
1 egg, separated
1/2 tbl butter, melted
-Sift dry ingredients together in a bowl
-Add egg yolk and milk to the dry ingredients and beat together thoroughly.
-Beat egg white until stiff, stir 1/4 into batter to lighten it and then gently fold in the remaining egg white.
-Pour a scant 1/2 cup of batter onto the heated waffle mold. The light should be off. When batter is added, the light will go on. When the light goes off again, the waffle is done.
-Makes about 6 waffles.

Chocolate Waffles ("which make great ice cream sandwiches," says the recipe book.)
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp sugar
2/3 cup milk
1 egg, separated
2 Tbl melted butter
1 1/2 squares semi-sweet chocolate (1 1/2 ounces)
3/4 tsp vanilla
-Sift dry ingredients together in a bowl
-Add milk, egg yolk, and vanilla to dry ingredients and beat until well blended.
-Melt butter and chocolate together in microwave or double boiler. Stir chocolate mixture into batter.
-Beat egg white until stiff, stir 1/4 into the batter to lighten it and then gently fold in the remaining egg white.
-Pour a scant 1/2 cup of batter onto the heated heart waffle mold. (Hmm, the WM-4 isn't shaped into a heart??? Oh well, moving onward...)
-Makes about 6 waffles

Serve sprinkled with powdered sugar or cinnamon or topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.
