You likely have some software issue that prevents all the new services from loading, most likely it is related to the antivirus/security software.

try disabling all the non-MS Services and all statup items in MSConfig, if it starts normally with all this disabled, reenable them a few at a time until you find the offending software

START
Run
type "MSCONFIG" withou the quotes
click the services Tab
check "Hide all microsoft services"
click disable all
click Satrtup Tab
Disable all
OK
allow to restart

during startup you will see a screen that says you have made the changes, this is normal (when you are all done, check the don't show again)

once you have found what causes the issue, Google the startup item and uninstall the related software.

Hope this helps

    What can you see?

    How far does the boot go, since it does not appear to be a software issue, it must almost certainly be a driver issue.

    It does not flash a bluescreen?

    Try setting the system not to restart on an error (press F8 during startup, then select the option that says not restart on an error). If there is a bluescreen you will be able to see it now (note the descriptor, the error code as well as any file names mentioned on the screen)

    Also, disconnect any items possible (printers etc, and if you have a wireles card, souncard etc, take that out or disconnect it). If it is not in startup, it is likely a driver issue.

    In safe mode, go to device manager

    In device manager disable the Video Card (under display adapters), right-click disable.

    then restart in full windows (I choose the Video card since it is most likely). If windows starts it will do so without the Video driver.

    If it is the video driver, reinstall it with the latest version, if it is not the video driver, try some other devices.

    If it starts in Safe mode, but not full windows with everything disabled in MSConfig, it is almost certainly some driver that windows loads, especially at the time you describe the issue starts.

    One more try, I was researching something else and ran into this.

    Start your computer in Safe Mode.

    2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter. This will open the Registry Editor
    .

    3) Click the pluses(+) next to the following registry keys
    to navigate to the correct spot.

    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    * SYSTEM
    * CurrentControlSet
    * Services
    * Intelppm

    4) In the right hand column find the entry titled START and double-click on it

    5) Change the number to 4 and click Ok

    6) Close the Registry Editor

    7) Shut down your computer and restart

    This time the computer should restart normally and finish the installation of SP3.

    worth a shot

You may need to reformat the hard drive to have enough space for the new operating system. Did you remove the old OS first?

HP xw 4400 will not recognize my hard drive when trying to install OS Windows XP Prof.

Windows XP had a hard time recognizing hard drives larger than 127 GB. The best solution is to install Windows XP with service pack 2 or 3 already slipstreamed. Otherwise, you are going to have to partition your hard drive with at least 1 partition of 127 GB or smaller.

Hello no1sugard, go to this "Website," and "Download the Updates" for Windows XP
(Service Pack 3)."
  • First make sure that you have [SP1 and SP2] already installed in your Computer?
  • To {check} which "Service Pack" you have already?
  • If not?
  • Then you must "Download SP1 and SP2 first!"
  • Open "the Computer Properties," by [Alt / Right] clicking on the Computer in the 'shortcut menu' of the "Start Menu."
If this information helped? Return and give a "Helpful Rating," please!

Dimension 5100 and windows xp pro SP3 clean install

I was able to dig this up.
Reference: http://4sysops.com/archives/tip-how-to-install-and-uninstall-a-program-in-safe-mode/

Run Windows in safe mode.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\
Create a registry key REG_SZ key and call it MSIService and value data and call it Service, which is the windows installer. This will give you permission to uninstall windows service Pack 3 from add/remove programs while in safe mode.

Dimension 5100 and windows xp pro SP3 clean install

Well if you have it installed on the computer and cant get past the Windows logo. Put the SP3 disk in and do a repair. Make sure you hit -R and not the repair button after clicking continue. Well the directions for a repair will be on the screen. That is my thoughts on what you should do. If you have already done this, then I'm not sure where you should head to next. Hope this helps!!

Problems when installing sp2 on my dell 4400

Reboot and keep tapping on F8 into Safe Mode. You can select "Last known good configuration" or continue In safe mode and do a system restore to the day before you installed the SP3. To do a system restore, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System restore. Windows XP SP3 has some issues with certain programs giving the blue screen of death.

Trying to restore dell 4400 and cannot get to a dell screen for f-12

If you boot from the XP CD and choose the first repair option it will load to a DOS prompt. From there type "chkdsk /r" and press enter. This will run checkdisk on your hard drive and repair any problems that it finds. It will take 45 minutes or more depending on the size of your drive. Once it finishes type exit to reboot and remove the CD. Your computer should boot normally.
