Kdc-238/CR speakers suddenly no sound out of speakers, subs work fine

My 97 thunderbird has a kenwood kedc-mp238/cr installed as the head unit, suddenly girl friend claims she used the src button and now i no matter what i do no sound from the speakers, but the subs work perfectly still. ive reset the unit and have removed power from the vehicle for over 30 min and still no sound from oem placement of kicker speakers. the mtx subs and mtx amp work perfectly. what ever i try i cant get the speakers to work.

ok worked all night last night, took the car to car tunze today, thought the unit was bad, nope after several more hours of working to trouble shoot the problem with three proffessionals, i removed the door panels and we checked each speaker, turns out a simple blown speaker was the problem. on your unit i would suggest calling the kenwood customer service line wich i did as well. their are trouble shooting guides on their web site as well, i suggest you reset the head unit and if that doesnt work call customer service tech support. the guy was very helpful. i am middle aged and have been doing car stereos for over 30 yrs, kenwood is one of the units ive never seen go bad. pioneer has always sucked and clarion good for 5 yrs or less. oem usually good for the life of the car.

I found th problem today and its fixed, my problem was as simple as a blown speaker. However durring the proccess of elimination I am sure the problem with your unit is the pig tail. Your battery power wire or you have a very bad ground. We rewired the pig tail first and we should had merely just checked the speakers. If just one is blown 0 will work as per system shut down protection. So double check your ground, then rewire the pig tail and definately check your power and ground wires. I believe that your harness or connector or "pig tail is bad" causing your issue, but don't rule out the oem speaker wires make sure u check them. On the thunderbird it has to have a stock jvc sound system to have an amp for the oem speakers.

Assuming that the four speakers are connected to the amplifier, then the amp is the most likely problem component. Does the amplifier show a power light when the system is turned on? Note that there is probably another fuse in the amplifier power wire, near the battery.

I assume the amp is turning on (lighting up) No audio may be due to Burnt rca ground trace in your kenwood radio. If you have a ohm meter measure continuity from rca's ground terminal to radio chassis. Should be close to zero resistance. If there is no no continuity there are fusible traces on radios main board that burn open at times when to much current is flowing thru rca ground
Just a good possibility , haver seen this happedmany times.

Its becuase the aux is turned off as default so you have to activate it.

Press menu for at least a second untill menu appears and then select the aux option and edit it to either aux on1 or aux on2 or aux off.

I have a kenwood kdc-mp238 and when i turn it on it says enter code. Well i have no idea what the code is. The other numbers on the head unit were m4x8mmmax

Kenwood I am afraid ask you to activate a code of your choice after purchase. The code you or the original keeper entered is NOT retrievable unless noted somewhere in your manual. This means the unit has to be taken/sent to a dealer for a "bench" re-coding.

Kenwood kdc-138, NO SOUND, CD PLAYER NO RESPONDING

First thing you need to do is make sure you dont have a short in the speaker wires.. if any one of them touches ground it kills the system.. then you have to remove all the wires and start over... disconnect the battery... remove all the speaker wires only and then turn it on and reset it... then again remove the battery from the car and install them all make sure nothing is touching then turn it back on and see if that works.. you can also test to make sure you speaker wires are good by using a 9v battery and touching positive and negative of each speaker to the positive and neg of the battery... JUST FOR A SECOND it will pop.. that means your wires are good and no shorted to that speaker.

Cd player plays, but no sound comes out of speakers.

first off the amp gets power straight from the battery. the amp is used to power the subs. the subs are suppose to be connected to the amp only( never the speakers).

for the second part you mostlikely killed the wires. you should get some one to look at it and check the wires. thee speakers might need to be re-wired
