Question about Projection Televisions

6 Answers

We have a RCA TV model M50WH92S. Recently it has started having the picture turn off after the TV has been on a minute or two. Then the picture will return at full intensity after a short while (maybe a minute). The sound stays on during the whole time unaltered. When the picture goes off there is a click at the back of the TV (I think it is from the right side, if you are facing the front of the TV)and it will click again when the picture returns. It keeps repeating the off-on cycle with the clicks. The click slightly (2 or 3 seconds) follows the disappearance of the picture and slightly precedes the return. The TV is just over a year old (made on Oct of 2007).

We had the TV unplugged for days and it still does the same thing. Also, I have a hard time believing it is the solder joints because it worked well for a year, then suddenly quit. I will check it out, however.

Hi!

It is still best to have it checked personally by a technician in your area.

It's hard to speculate honestly wherein you can't get your hands on the issue.

A lot of manual testing should be done to check ICs and all.

Even if it is only a year old, poor workmanship or poor quality of the unit could cause it to breakdown prematurely.

Thanks and Good luck! =)

This sounds to me like the flyback transformer is going out and will need replaced...The part is around $70.00 but it is a high voltage holder and will have to be done by a pro (this is a very common problem with this set!)

Try hard reset .

Unplug the unit from power chord for 30 minutes and plug back the power chord to the unit .
This will reset your unit .

The problem is due to bad soldering joints in your tv .

I have an RCA M50WH92S and when i turn it on the power light flashes 5 times and no picture. I have replaced the bulb today. any ideas?

first is parts for this set can get expensive---I would do two things first:

1. Look to see if lamp comes on at all--even for a few seconds.

2. Look with lamp removed where it faces to see if color wheel broken/shattered or missing pieces of the wheel.

If the lamp does not come on the next suspect would be the Ballast which powers the lamp---if its bad you may or may not get sound either.

IF IT USES A LAMP AND HAS THIS -- the problem is inside the optical light engine--a lot of them get damaged from the intense heat from the lamp which shines directly into the engine.

Problem with TV turning on and off sound remains on though

Changing the lamp is easy enough. The lamp is about $250.00 . There's a lamp cover door usually in the back that removes, then the lamp housing will be displayed held in with 2 screws most of the time,, then you will be able to pull the lamp assembly out.

Picture turns on and off

Just found this trying to figure out what was wrong with my same model tv. Since mine was under warantee, I had the repairman troubleshoot it. He changed the lamp and the tv started working normally again.

I didn't understand how the lamp could be bad if it lit up while the tv was on. He said the tube was probably using too much voltage or too little voltage to run, so the tv would turn itself off and on in an attempt to receive the correct voltage from the lamp.

I realize this is 9 months late, but maybe it can help someone else who has this problem. I can't believe there are only 3 rca dlp's out there with this problem.
