Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
System starts with normal green lights and then fan shuts off and lower under console yellow light flashes. It's an 80gig system purchased new in December 2007. Any ideas? (It's extremely frustrating to pay so much for something that breaksdown 3 days after the 1year warranty expired).
SOURCE: PS3 will not start!
You can try booting the PS3 without the hard drive. If you get the same kind of results then the problem is mostly likely the GPU on the motherboard.
This is one of thee most common problems with the 60gb PS3.
Sony is going to be the only ones capable of fixing the problem correctly.
You can reach them @ 1-800-345-SONY
BEFORE you send your unit in for repair make sure you blow the vents out with compressed air. If the inside of the PS3 is dusty they will not repair your unit.

THis issue is a motherboard issue, sort of like the 3 red lights on the Xbox 360. It will need to be repaired. If it is under warranty then send it to Sony, otherwise we fix this issue in my repair shop, just go to joegoods.com

HI, this is an emergency shut down, due to overheating. the yellow light is an indicator of a previous overheating issue that has damaged the power unit.
unplug the unit and, let it sit for 10 minutes to cool. after the cool off, plug the unit into the wall socket once more and, power up. if it continues to shut down and, flash the red light, this will confirm a major fault within the power unit. Contact Sony for the replacement of the power unit in this case.
***NOTE(If the unit begins to play normally after the cool-down period, you will need to purchase a cooling device to prevent future overheating issues).

Hi,In order to fix PS3 green light flashing problem you're going to have to do some troubleshooting on your machine. The usual steps of unplugging everything and doing a hard reset apply. These are universal and advisable for any error on any console. If this doesn't work then you're going to have to go a bit deeper into your PlayStation.
Typically you get this error when something is not operating correctly inside the unit. This is different from a display or hardware errors, these still allow the console to be turned on. In the event you need to fix PS3 green light flashing problem chances are something is not working with your power supply.
If the PlayStation 3 detects a problem in the power supply or any other components that might cause severe damage it will not boot. Do note that this is a safety feature designed to keep the console from overloading and requires some dis-assembly to fix.
