I have a Rheem 82vs50-2. Can this heater's elements be wired continuous for 9.0kw and is there any mfr documention that allows continuous wiring of this heater

You have dual element 240Volt tank-type electric water heater.
You want to change wiring from non-simultaneous to simultaneous.
Copy following link for exact internal wiring diagram, and external wiring change: Remember the wire from breaker box will not support both elements without tripping breaker, so you will need additional 30 amp breaker and 10 gauge wire, or single 50 amp breaker and 6 gauge wire.

Bosch AE-9.5 keeps tripping the reset

All resets and breakers trip with high heat.
Do you mean the tankless unit is tripping the 40 amp circuit breaker?
Or the thermal cut-out, located on unit, is tripping?

Is this a new installation?
Or was the tankless working before and stop working?

Copy following link to check wiring.
AE 9.5 requires 40 amp breaker and 6 gauge wire.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Tankless-electric-water-heater.html

If the unit is tripping the thermal cut, -out, then product manual says to call Bosch or service technician.
Call Bosch 866-330-2729
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Bosch-Powerstar-AE3.4-7.2-9.5.pdf
Thermal cut-out can trip if water flow is too low.
Try changing power selector screw from Hi to Lo so only 1 element is ON. See diagram page 6 of manual.
Adjust the 'outlet service valve:' The manual recommends that a ball valve be installed between hot outlet and faucet. Adjust the valve so more water flows to faucet.
Remove aerator, clean aerator, don't use low flow restrictions or low flow shower heads, replace leaky faucet cartridge on single-handle faucet.

Why did water heater turn off?
If water heater was exposed to flammable vapors like gasoline, paint thinner, paint, leaking gas line, etc, then the 'single use gas shut off' might have tripped.
If water heater is older and the burner parts never cleaned, then combustion chamber can experience overheating, and that can trigger 'single use shut off.'

Instructions for lighting water heater should be printed on side of heater.
Follow the instructions and see if water heater will light.
Then check if flame is clear blue. If flame is yellow-orange, then burner parts need to be cleaned.
If water heater will not light, then combustion parts may need to be cleaned, and air intake cleaned, and 'single use shut off' could also be tripped.

Also possible that gas control valve thermostat is bad.

My 40 gallon whirlpool electric water heater stopped working today

The thermostat (either the upper or lower if it has two thermostats) has an integral circuit breaker that trips if a problem occurs. First try resetting the breaker. Look for a red button in the middle of the thermostat (which will most likely be behind a metal panel. BE SURE to shut of the breaker in the electrical panel that serves the water heater.

The water heater should start to heat up if the thermostat breaker doesn't trip right away. However, if the breaker on the thermostat trips again at any time, there is most likely a short in the thermostat and it needs to be replaced.

They two thermostats are not identical. The upper unit typically has three wire connections while the lower unit only has two.
If you find that one of the units must be replaced, ensure that you get the proper replacement. Then, you should mark the wires and their connection points and then disconnect them. The thermostat can then be slid out of the clasp that holds it to the tank. Slide the replacement in and reconnect the wires and ensure that they are tight.

You should complete your water heater thermostat replacement by turning the power to the unit back on. Observe the proper operation of the water heater and ensure that the thermostat is set at the desired temperature. (The temperature should normally be set at 120 degrees to save energy and avoid burns.)

Only you know your level of ability. Water heaters are high voltage and draw a high amp load. If you feel you cannot safely perform this work, do not attempt it. Call a plumber instead.

Hope this helps.

I don't have specific suggestion for tankless tripping breaker or if that is a circuit breaker problem or a tankless problem.

1) Move wires to another same-size breaker and see if problem persists.

2) Compare amp draw on tankless label with wire size and breaker size amp rating.
For example 30 amp breaker using 10ga wire is rated for 80% of listed amps or 24 amps.

3) If you are drawing full 30 amps, then 30 amp breaker is getting hot. Breaker trips with heat. Older breakers can trip more easily.

4) Before calling service technician, open following link for Bosch troubleshooting steps.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Bosch-Tankless-water-heater.html

5) Be sure to read manual for yearly maintenance requirements.

6) Add a tempering tank for incoming cold water problem.

7) All gas tankless brands can be repaired by homeowner for $330.

I have a rheem optima 315 single element. sometimes after a shower, the hot water cct breaker trips. unit did get low on water once when a pipe burst (am on tank water), and could hear water boiling, then...

It sounds like the element, which would generally be 4.8 KW for this size tank, may be faulty. Due to the incident mentioned it may have poor insulation resistance which causes a short circuit. I think you need to replace the element. If this is done by an electrician I would also get him to check the thermostat is okay.

I would check with your owners manual to see what they reccomend for minimum breaker size. I don't remember on this particular model but it may be a single element instead of dual element. The single element usually use more power than dual. I would also check thermostat settings if this is a dual element. They should never be set at same temperature. Also if it continues to trip breaker I would check all wiring, then replace breaker. Sometimes they do wear out and trip when they really shoul not. Hope this helps. Thanks

I would say then the heating element has a resistive short to ground. The 1.98m Ohm reading is high, but not high enough -- should be infinite. I would say replace heating element... And, when you install new one, make sure there is no water leaking thru heating element cavity and ensure area around cavity is clean & "in order".
