    Erm ok let's try!

You did not tell me what i asked you though! I am assuming again that it is XP / VISTA

SOLUTION 1: You might have just muted it matey!

    1. Assuming that it is really muted it might well be the following. Go to control panel find hardware and sound (vista) or sound under (xp).

    2. Go to recording controls and check if the MIC is SELECTED (with a tick underneath). If the MIC is selected also check that the volume is not MUTED or to LOW. From the recording controls/devices area in the SAME panel you just entered a while ago check if the levels are ok for sound and that it is not muted.

Solution 2: Microphone might be BROKEN

sometimes these laptops get the microphone wires twisted so much (as they would be in the lid) that these wires break. Don't panic in that case go out to a computer shop get hold of a cheap mic or headset. Not more than 5 US$ and purchase it. Then plug it in your PINK socket which you got on the laptop. Refer to the manual to check which is the MIC connection just to crosscheck to make sure.

I hope that this was of help

I?m facing a problem with built-in microphone that its not working after i install XP.

Try going to the control panel,
  1. click on sound's and audio device's,
  2. in the sound's and audio device's propertie's box click the voice tab at the top,
  3. under voice recording check to see if the internal mic is checked in the voice recording, default device box,
  4. if it is click the volume box, a new box will appear that say's recording control,
  5. make sure the microphone has a check in the box,
  6. under microphone click the advanced tab,
  7. in the advanced tab make sure the microphone boost has a check in the box,
  8. go back to the sound's and audio device's propertie's box under the voice tab,
  9. at the bottom of the box under voice click on test hardware,
  10. on some built in microphone's you have to talk into the area where the mic is located on the laptop.
  11. if it does'nt help try using the device manager to resolve the sound issue's, check to see if the device is enabled, if it is use the troubleshooting tab to see if the device has a conflict, if it's working properly it will say this device is working properly, or try using the update driver tab.

HP Mic doesn't work in sound recorder but does in video recorder

Hi,

This is not a problem.
Just configure your microphone as a recording device under Recording device properties.

You can do it by double clicking on the volume control and get to the recording devices property pages.
You can do the same through Control Panel as well.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Check first if your sound card is working properly.

My Computer >> Right click...Properties >> hardware >> Device manager >> Sound

Then go to Start >> Control Panel >> Sound and Audio Devices .........hit ADVANCED

one dialog appears MASTER VOLUME >> Go to OPTIONS >> Then PROPERTIES..........

CHECK the MICROPHONE...........Hit OK.............

This will be fixing your problem (if your sound card is working well)

Microphone

This might help. Goto the device manager and delete the device. Then reboot. It should be detected and reinstalled automatically. If it doesn't, the hardware is broken.

Other things to check are in the volume control. goto properties, recording, and see if the mic is selected and up.
