Re: my xbox 360 will not read any disks
Microsoft Xbox have some common problem like red lights, E74 and Disc
Read Error. Microsoft is providing extended warranty for red lights
problem, Means you will have to spend some money in order to get this
problem repaired from Microsoft also you will have to wait for 3-4
weeks to get your Xbox back. There are many reasons disc read error can
occur in your Xbox like your disc might not be clean, laser might also
be dirty and many more common problem. I would suggest you to first
clean out the disc, you are using. If that don't solve the problem you
can also take the help of DIY guide available at Internet. I think you have got good no. of options to get your Xbox repaired, Choice is yours.
It is prob your laser needs replaced, you can try a cd lens cleaner (this gave me another month or so out of my last lazer) The clicking noise is the drive trying to read the disc, are you trying to load backups or original discs?

The main problem might be a big problem with the disk tray. There might be an faulty wire that has lost connection and if your disk wont event turn on, there might be a problem with the power supply that supplies the cd tray. If the disk opens and closes but doesnt read and wont say tray is in and keeps saying open tray, there might be a small fracture on some of the wires or there is something wrong with the motherboard of the xbox 360. The best way is to buy the warrenty now and send it to the xbox 360.
The usually occurs when the optical assembly cannot pick up the disk completely. It tried to read the disk but after a while it thinks that it might be something else such as obstruction or improperly inserted disk and then ejects the tray. You can try and purchase a lens cleaning disk or canned air, something to remove the dust or anything blocking some of the laser light getting through, this should be all you need.
The drive is damaged and needs to be replaced. YOu can get a replacement on ebay fairly cheap.
If you want a ps3 then that is up to you, but they also have their fair share of problems, and are not nearly as friendly to service.
In very rare instances I believe that the dvd drive of your xbox 360 might have been disconnected. In this case,it dispays an "open tray" message. For this you will have to open your 360 but please take it to the dealer if you are still protected by warranty.Good luck. Thanks for reading.
If you don't have the tools to open your 360 go to best buy or an office supply store and get a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of the dvd drive. If that doesn't work then the lens needs to be cleaned with a q-tip and alcohol. This has worked for me on numerous occasions.
There could possibly be something wrong with the disk tray or the lasers inside the Xbox 360 that reads the disk. The best option would be to contact Microsoft at 1-800-4MY-Xbox and tell them the disk tray is messing up. They will most likely tell you that they will fix it, and you send it off to them for it to be fixed. When you send it off, make sure you remove everything from the Xbox 360 (cables and hard drive) because the one they will send you back will most likely be a refurbished Xbox 360, not your actual 360. It sucks, I know, but its free to fix. The whole process usually takes 3-4 weeks.
