Question about RCA DRC8300N (DRC8300NWITHREBATE) Burner

My RCA 8310 DVD+R/+RW -VCR Combo will not format and record on a +R disc

When I insert a +R disc for burning I get a message of "reading disc" then "New disc DVD+RV volume" then when I try to record to this disc I get a second message of "error recording" "disc may need cleaned" then the whole thing locks up and nothing will respond. I must unplug from the power source to even turn the player off, there is no response from any input, remote or buttons on the front of the recorder, DVD or VCR. I have no problem recording to DVD+RW discs only to +R discs. Can you help me with this, am I not doing something? Thank you.

    there a Problem RCA 8300 will not work I have the same problem recording. Lock up I've try all Types dvd+R/W + R I would never Buy RCA Again

    I have had the 8300 for several years, and, despite it not liking some DVD's

    it is a very good machine. Or it has been until recently. Now it will not

    record on Any New DVD. However, if I have a DVD that has something

    already recorded on it, and is still open, I can record.
    I thought maybe the beginning record area needed cleaning, but that did not help.

    So, since I have 2 other DVD recorders (Lite-On), I use this machine as

    a VHS recorder, and DVD player. It's nice cos I can do both at the same

    time. Meanwhile my Lite-on's do my DVD recording.

    However !!! I do wish I could get this player to record again. I have looked

    to purchace a new one, but the reviews are so bad that I am better off

    just keeping the one I have and hoping that some day I will find discs that it likes !!

    Any suggestions?

    I have exactly the same problem. It records with no problem to +RW but with +Rs, it acts as if it is going to record then throws up the error message. Manual says it will record to either format.

I purchased this RCA 8310 about 2 years ago. I have recoreded hundreds of dvd's. If I try to use anything but a Imation brand DVD+R, 8+ speed, I get the same error. It will not work with a 16+ dvd.

Same thing happens for me. Did anyone ever find another solution? I spent like 400.00 2 years agof or this thing and I still have yet to burn a DVD. Pretty expensive dvd player. lol

Check your manual - looks like this particular firmwear does not like disks of this type. These machine can be very picky with the discs that will respond to.

Won't work with the same kind of discs i've used before
I not sure as to which type of Discs that you are refering to (ie DVD+R or DVD+RW). This player will only recognize 4x (max) DVD+RW and 8x (max) DVR+R discs. If the DVD+R Disc is 16x, the DVD recorder will not recognize it once you start to record. The player will read the blank Disc and give the impression that it will record on it. I have noticed that when a 16x speed Disc is in the Drive, The recordable hours for the disc seems to double. The normal 6 Hour recording length comes up as 12 Hours when you hit the info button. Since the 8x Speed (max) discs are not available any longer, I found it best to use the DVD+RW 4x Discs and make it compatible. I then copy the compatible DVD+RW disc to a 16X DVD+R disc using my computer DVD burner. The DVD+RW disc can then be erased so that it can be reused.

It sounds like the recorder will only record the dvd+ format, which does NOT need finalizing to play in other machines. ( you can record a dvd- , play it back on the machine you recorded it on, but need to finalize it to play on other machines)
The other units may only accept dvd-.(dvd- being the same format as you would buy or rent a film on)
One option, record the dvd on a dvd+rw (if possible) then copy to a dvd-r using your computer. The average use of a dvd+ is 1000 recordings.
There are many free disc burning suites available to download. Just google "free disc burning software" and take your pick.
I use 1 called "magix goya base" for copying disc to disc and "NTI" for burning to HDD and then to disc, if you only have use of 1 drive.

remove cover clean burner eye a little toilet paper,put a little grease on linear bearings, very little using a toothpic use verbatim dvd rw discs from cdw inc. 1x4 speed

I have a Sony CRX320E CD/DVD unable to write a DVD
CD-RW drives can only read all CD-rom and CD-RW formats and read DVD formats but cannot write to a DVD, if you want to write a DVDs you need to buy a DVD-RW burner which can burn all CD-formats

I have same TOSHIBA D-VR4XSU VCR/DVD RECORDER. According to the
manual, you (COULD) can use for recording: DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R (see page 50). WRONG!!! I bought all 3 types of discs, but after few
weeks I got same experience you got now. Just type DVD-R works. The other
types were - wasted money and a lot of time trying to finalize the disc. I had to
throw all into the garbage. Try DVD-R and you should?? be O.K.

Some blank DVD+R discs will not read on my DVD player
The JVC DR-MV1S DVD Recorder / VCR Combo does not suppport DVD+R, only DVD-R, -RW etc.
At least mine only supports these formats, as when I first bought mine, I got some blank DVD's they were DVD+R.
I recorded a movie onto one on my PC, then tried playing it in the JVC unit... no go!
Instruction manual (available for D/load online) proved to me that I could not play +R disks!!

Toshiba D VR660KU DVD VCR combo
The unit will only allow 2 hour recording on the DVD+R format. The DVD-R format is adjustable for longer recording time, just understand that the longer recording times = the lower the quality of the recording.
