I have tried that too (i.e. Win XP and Synch 4.5) and it did not work - Sorry! .....and anyway I do need to run it on a Vist machine. I'm getting very frustrated

  • j_spitzer Jan 05, 2009

You (Mrright) say "Reload Software" Is that the WMDC (done that several times) or MS Outlook 2007?

  • j_spitzer Jan 05, 2009

No PIE plus installed on my machine (as suggested by Findmeifucan)

  • j_spitzer Jan 05, 2009

Renosean: Have tried that as well under XP didn't help - sorry,

  • j_spitzer Jan 05, 2009

Sorry, still getting same error message!

  • j_spitzer Jan 05, 2009

This is the same as the previous suggestion which didnt work!

  • j_spitzer Jan 06, 2009

Tried it (yes there were errors in the pst file) BUT it didn't help iPAQ froze in the middle of synch and wouldn't even re set from a soft rest - needed hard reset to get it back to life again!

  • j_spitzer Jan 06, 2009

Device is recognised and it has synched properly in the past until I got the error message

  • j_spitzer Jan 06, 2009

Lots of work getting it to synch with bluetooth ...........BUT again still getting same error message - sorry

  • j_spitzer Jan 06, 2009

    Made no difference

  • j_spitzer Jan 06, 2009

removing SD card and battery made no difference

  • j_spitzer Jan 07, 2009

Worst advice ever! It chewed my registry up and cost me $30!! - its taken me a sevrtem restore and hours of work to put right - and I'm no further with my original problem!

  • j_spitzer Jan 07, 2009

Same as last solution - see comment - don't try it it kills your registry!

  • j_spitzer Jan 07, 2009

not able to do it myself - will get someone to help me

  • j_spitzer Jan 07, 2009

Thanks WorldVet - excuse my ignorance but how do I do that and on which specific directories? - I'm trying to sync with Outlook 2007 to an iPaq 214 PDA - Thanks

  • j_spitzer Jan 07, 2009

Can't remember what the error message was on XP - am now using Vista and no longer have acess to the xp computer

Rename or delete sync.log file on your pda
    \\windows\activesync\ - didn't help

Have tried synch each part separately - I think its my calender that's the problem

NB I have to perform a hard reset each time I try any of these suggestions as the calender and contacts freeze up after each attempted synch (of the calender)

  • j_spitzer Jan 07, 2009

have tried 2 vista computers - no luck!

  • j_spitzer Jan 08, 2009

I'm not too familiar with editing the registry, but following the instructions in the ODBC permissions I changed everything (that would let me) to YES (or ticked the box) Unfortunately this did not help - did I do it right?

  • j_spitzer Jan 08, 2009

Thanks, but I have done this many times and between trying every suggestion posted i do a hard reset - not (yet) helped

  • j_spitzer Jan 08, 2009

Yes I am running Norton antivirus

  • j_spitzer Jan 08, 2009

Yes I am running Norton antivirus

  • j_spitzer Jan 08, 2009

sorry, but I don't understand what you intend that I should do?

  • j_spitzer Jan 08, 2009

I've done that (hard reset) many many times but I always get the same problem - I'm getting very frustrated!!!!

  • j_spitzer Jan 08, 2009

    Proxycfg -d -p * ";servername of WSS;FQDN of WSS;ipaddress of WSS"
Tried that and get the following message "Proxycfg is not recognised as an internal or external command, opperable program or batch file"

NB I'm on a stand alone laptop not a networked computer

  • j_spitzer Jan 10, 2009

Registry fixing software destroyed my registry, and cost me $30 for thge priveledge! I had to do a system restore to undo the damage. Unless I know EXACTLY what to edit in the registry and how to do that, I'm not going that route again.

  • j_spitzer Jan 10, 2009

Thank you - but I have been through all that before contacting FixYa! So sorry but I'm still stuch with my problem

  • j_spitzer Jan 10, 2009

What SPECIFIC registry problem - and how do I correct it?

  • j_spitzer Jan 11, 2009

Sorry downloaded what? - NB I've not downloaded anything at all via my PDA

  • j_spitzer Jan 11, 2009

Still not solved my problem, any new ideas?

  • j_spitzer Jan 11, 2009

I've done all the permissions as instructed on PRB: Error Message: 0x80004005 not made any difference

  • j_spitzer Jan 11, 2009

I've tried most of the suggestions so far, but I'm no further - any more suggestions? - What if I wipe my hard disk and reinstall Windows and all my other programs (Rather drastic very time consuming)? will it help? will I get the same problem again? How do I know I won't get the same problem a few weeks down the line? All I wan't is to get my PDA to synch reliably with my Outlook files.

  • j_spitzer Jan 11, 2009

I have tried switching Norton off completely - no change! NB I don't use my Outlook or PDA for emails - only for contacts/calender/notes/reminders

  • j_spitzer Jan 11, 2009

Thanks, but |I have to do a hard (factory) reset between each attempt at synchronizing as the iPaq becomes unstable and freezes after each unsucessful 0x80004005 errer

  • j_spitzer Jan 11, 2009

You remove activesync, and reinstall and still no sync. You check
device manager, remove the com port driver reboot reinstall and still
no sync. This is actually a common problem, but it's not documented.
Windows by default will increment the com port assignment each time it
detects a new device. It does so automatically via plug and play
interface. So if you see your outgoing or incoming port assignments in
device manager listed with any number above 8, then your pda will not
sync. Most ipaq's (and other windows mobile based pda's) sync with a
windows pc but you must use a com port assignment below port 9. Also
this might sound a little confusing at first, because most pda's are
connected via the usb port. But note that the actual com port
assignment is virtual and basically used as the interface. It has
nothing to do on how your pda is physically connected. Meaning the tip
here works if you are connected via serial, usb, bluetooth or even via
    wi-fi link.

    adparams.getadspec('c_billboard1');

Simply removing the com port doesn't work, because as already stated
windows will increment the port number each time a new device is added.
Which is in essense what you are doing when you remove a com port
entry, and try to reinstall your pda.

The solution is simple, select any communications port number under port 9, and you will have no problems.

To change the com port assignment do this: Right click on my
computer, properties, then right click over com port 9(or whatever new
com port windows just assigned to your pda) and select properties,
click on port settings tab, then advanced. On the bottom of this screen
use the drop down menu to assign it a different number. Remember it
must be under 9. Just as long no other device is using that number then
    you'll be fine.

There's one thing you can try, which is the following:

go to control panel then to add/remove programs then on the left side there's Add/Remove windows components click on that.

then scroll to Internet Information Services and make sure it has a check beside it. if it doesnt then click it and press apply or OK then it will ask you for a WinXp or Vista in your case, put the CD inside and click ok to install Internet Information Services.

Now login using administrator account and hopefully your phone will sync.

let me know if that works?

This is a conflict when Windows Microsoft is updating and maybe the Ipaq registry is damaged already. Just try a soft reset will fix your problem. I think you need to perform a clean reset. A clean reset will remove all your user files, any software you've installed to it, and any user settings you've added to it and will restore the pocket pc to its factory settings. It should not affect anything you have on an SD card, but remove the SD card when you do it.

Hope it may help you;

    1. Make sure your Windows Mobile device is unplugged from your system during the next four steps.

    2. Uninstall your previous Windows Mobile Device Center/Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update installations.

    3. Reboot.

    4. Reinstall WMDC 6.1 fromhttp://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/d... Wait until all device driver installation dialogs have stopped appearing (which can/will continue after the WMDC 6.1 installation has completed).
Click here for Windows Mobile Device Center
    5. Plug in your Windows Mobile device and wait until all device driver installation dialogs/balloon pop up signals are completed. WMDC should now let you create a new partnership.

Are you running Norton Antivirus?

Posted on Jan 08, 2009

  • Curtis Tuendemann Jan 08, 2009

"Hi Janet D. I was having the exact same problem and finally figured out
the problem tonight. The Yahoo POP3 server was telling my computer that
there were 19 new email messages to download, but in reality there were
20 new messages. This was causing outlook express to fail with the
0x80004005 error. Here's what I did to fix the problem: I logged into
my account on the yahoo website and went to my email page on the web. I
then created a new folder called "temp" in my webmail account. Then I
moved all my new emails from my webmail inbox to the new "temp" folder.
Then I moved all those new emails right back to my webmail inbox, and
that fixed the incorrect count. After that I ran outlook express and
sure enough, it downloaded all my messages with no problems.

Just note that the 0x80004005 error is used by Microsoft for alot of
different reasons, so your problem may not be the same as mine. One
sure way to tell is to count the number of email messages in your
webmail inbox when you log into your yahoo account online. See if that
number matches the the number that's displayed next to the "inbox"
word. If the counts don't match, then you're having the same problem as
    I had."

Found this on the Yahoo messege board originally posted by "Jim C"

Alot of people are pointing the finger at norton

"To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Disable Script Blocking in Norton AntiVirus
    Warning
This workaround may make your computer or your network more vulnerable
to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses.
We do not recommend this workaround but are providing this information
so that you can implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use
this workaround at your own risk.
In Norton AntiVirus, turn off the "Enable script blocking" feature."

After some extensive research I found those options hope they work

Hi,

You've had some good suggestions so far.

Primarily what you need to do is set permissions on all dicrectories that you want to sync with.

Its nothing more than that. Open each folder and set permissions to change for that folder an you will be okay.

It shouldn't come to this actually. It should be straight forward. But, its not, so make these changes and you should be OK?

Regards,
Worldvet

Hi, Just got an email alert that this is still open. When using syncing software I have found that setting permission in the folders solves many problems.

What you do it right click the folder holding the data and on the property sheet for that folder there is a check box to Share this... etc. and another to let users change contents. This is what I check off for all my syncing tasks.

Its pretty self explanatory, but let me know through an Ask Me question if you need further assistance.

Hi there
There is problem with the registry and the PDA cannot sync with any machine.
Firstly perform a Microsoft update on the PDA and make sure its up to date.
To resolve this issue on a computer, use one of the following methods:

  • Use a host name, such as: http://projsvr2003/ProjectServer to connect to the Project Server Web site.
  • Use the WinHTTP Default Proxy Configuration Tool to add the FQDN to the Bypass List.
To add the FQDN to the Bypass List, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  2. Type the following command line, and then press ENTER: Proxycfg -d -p * "<local>;servername of WSS;FQDN of WSS;ipaddress of WSS"
  3. At the command prompt, type iisreset and then press ENTER. The iisreset command stops and then restarts Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS).
Also perform a genuine advantage diagnostic from the Microsoft site >>>>>>>

Good luck and kind regards

I chatted with omeone for 3 hours on this issue, with almost no luck. This is what ended up solving the issue:

sync ipaq with vista using Bluetooth
http://forums.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/ShowPost.aspx?postid=3427694&isthread=true&siteid=65&authhash=5ab61ea33c1bcd8180534a1b8d8cbab85de34759&ticks=633479378241863470
If this is not an option, please follow the following procedure:

Or, if you do not have bluetooth on your pc, you can do this:
-Import your personal contacts and calendar into the Windows Contacts/Calendar that comes with Vista. You might have to convert the .pst file into a different format first.

Let me know if this works out. Good Luck!

Microsoft replaced ActiveSync with Windows Mobile Device Center, an improved version of the software for use with computers running Windows Vista. You must use this new program to sync your Windows Mobile device in Windows Vista. The first time you plug a Windows Mobile device into a computer that is connected to the Internet and running Windows Vista, Windows Mobile Device Center should automatically download and install on the computer. After you set up your device to sync in Windows Mobile Device Center, the sync results will appear in Sync Center.

If you are unable to get a device to work with Sync Center, it may help to check if your device is listed in Device Manager. Even if Windows recognizes your device, however, it might not be compatible with Sync Center.
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button Synch problems with PDA and WMDC - error 0x8000400 - getopencontent.aspx?assetid=4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33&documentset=en-us&renderkey=xml, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.‌ If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Repair errors by using Scanpst.exe

  1. Exit Outlook if it is running.
  2. Double-click Scanpst.exe, located at drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12.
  3. In the Enter the name of the file you want to scan box, enter the name of the .pst or .ost file that you want to check, or click Browse to search for the file.
  4. To specify the scan log options, click Options, and then click the option that you want.
  5. Click Start.
  6. If errors are found after the scan is complete, you will be prompted to start the repair process to fix the errors.
A backup file is created during the repair process. To change the default name or location of this backup file, in the Enter name of backup file box, enter a new name, or click Browse to look for the file that you want to use.
  7. Click Repair.
  8. Start Outlook by using the profile that contains the .pst file that you tried to repair.
  9. On the Go menu, click Folder List. In the Folder List, you may see a folder named Recovered Personal Folders that contains your default Outlook folders or a Lost and Found folder. The recovered folders are usually empty, because this is a rebuilt .pst file. The Lost and Found folder contains the folders and items recovered by the Inbox Repair tool. Items that are missing from the Lost and Found folder cannot be repaired.
  10. If you see a Recovered Personal Folders folder, you can create a new .pst file, and drag the items in the Lost and Found folder into the new .pst file. When you have finished moving all the items, you can remove the Recovered Personal Folders (.pst) file, including the Lost and Found folder, from your profile.

The error is on windows, and is because of windows permissions. You need to log in as administrator , or on account with administrator privileges and modify entries on windows registry, so to change security and permissions settings, see:

To start, do not download regcure, and do not pay them, see: RegCure Software Complaints - Regcure Software killed my PC!

The link had been posted by mistake by some new expert.

As I told you before, the problem is related to windows ODBC settings on Windows Registry, and effectively the registry must be manually edited by a technician, as if you do things incorrectly Windows may not restart.
Often you can also fix the problem with system estore, as this will report the computer registry to a previous date.

The problem affects Outlook and other applications that need ODBC.

Make a safe registry backup using export on registry editor if you decide to do modify registry.

    Possible solutions:

1 Microsof solution, modify Windows Registry :PRB: Error Message: 0x80004005

2 Do system restore, this restore Windows registry to an earlier backup.

Hard reset has nothing to do, you need to ask a technician to work on your registry manually, or do it a t your risk.

It is days that I am posting the comment from Microsoft with the solution here: PRB: Error Message: 0x80004005

Bother to read it and print it out.

You need to update the active sync on the PDA. This can be done from the windows mobile homepage and or done by installing the newest version of windows mobile. You will need to do this from a non vista computer as you will need to have active sync functioning on a computer to get it to install.

If you haven't already done so, try to uninstall and reinstall WMDC on your PC. Reset both your PC and PDA, and try again.
Just my 2 cents... Carlos

My home desk top says this UBS device attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognized it and calls the device unknown.

Firstly, reboot both your PC and PDA. If they keep failing to connect, delete the partnership between them, both on your PC and PDA. If they keep refusing to connect, remove ActiveSync (for WinXP) or WMDC (for Vista & 7) from your PC and reinstall it.
Hope you are able to have your device synced soon.
Cheers! Carlos

You could have a corrupted program on your PDA. You need to contact HP and have them re-flash or upgrade the firmware of your PDA and it should work much better than before.

With Vista, there has been a change from Activesync to Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) which does the same thing that activesync does.

You need to download and install WMDC and then you should be able to sync.

I cannot get my new ASUS A626 to synch to my PC I am running Vista.

I am having the same problem and according to the computer experts at Staples in Montana they say that there is an upgrade in Windows that we need to download to the A626. However, I have searched Windows and not found anything so, I am off to Staples to have them fix it for $10. Best of luck everyone.

To do this right click on the time on you pc go to the time/clock settings and then click on the time zone tab and below the clock is the box that says automatically adjust for daylight savings time make sure that is checked and then re-sync the iPAQ.

My H5450 won't charge!

When you charge up your iPaq, do you use the cradle, or do you use the AC-adapter with the little iPaq power converter that came with the iPaq? Try both, and see if it charges up your pda. Try and borrow an iPaq car-charger and see if it charges up that way (the ones that do not need the iPaq power converter). If you are lucky enough to power up the iPaq even for 2 minutes, enable USB fast charging in the SETTING -> BATTERY. Your USB-data-cable or cradle will then be able to charge it up that way...
