I have just moved in to a flat with a vent axia storage heater. I switched it on last night and although the output in off it is still heating up the room today. Is that normal? thanks Heather

Yes, Heather, it's working correctly. It lives up to it's name "storage heater". When you turned it on last night, it heated and at the same time it was storing heat to be used later, during peak electrical use hours, without having to use any electricity. It's working as it should.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Hi I have a night store heater model 79168 in my new home and no idea how to use it!! Please help :)

Here is a good article for Dimplex, a storage heater manufacturer, that explains the the theory and how it works. I'm sure you will find it interesting. http://www.dimplex.com/storage_heaters#

Basically, thermal storage heaters heat ceramic bricks during off peak hours (during the night), store the heat to be used during peak hours (during the daylight hours), when electricity is more expensive per kilowatt hour.

Hope this helps you.

Slimline storage heaters with no switch to turn on/off - how do you turn them on? have taken off the front panel but can see no switch/override - the electric cable comes straight from the wall into the...

The principle of electric storage heaters is that they take in electricity at night through a central time switch (normally owned by the electricity supply company and usually not controllable by the user).

There should then be a main switch/ fuse box to control the heater circiuts, check for such a box and that it is switched on (This would normally be sited near the electricity meter).

There should be an isolator switch next to each heater but from what you say this is not the case.

There should be some controls on each storage heater marked INPUT with a dial from 1 to 6 or similar then another marked OUTPUT or BOOST.

When you have ascertained the fuse box is on and the heater controls are set to maximum you then have to wait overnight for the heaters to warm up.
