Locked document for edit

I have a dell latitude c600. the keyboard is not functioning in any program. I think maybe the function key has something to do with it but I 'm not sure and I'm not familiar with it. in word I have a message at the bottom; the command is not available because the document is locked for edit.

Call Dell open a ticket and ship it back to them. Could be many things. Was anything spilled on the laptop or was the laptop violently jarred or dropped?

How to unlock the key pad on a dell latitude D600 laptop

Hi. Please do troubleshooting steps below:

1. Check to be sure your "Number Lock" or "Function Lock" keys aren't lit. These can lock out certain parts of your keyboard. If either of these is lit, press them to unlock the locked portion of your keyboard. These can be found at the top right on a laptop and between the number pad and main keys on a desktop keyboard.

2. Save all open programs using your mouse. Use your mouse to restart your computer. This will only work if your computer isn't frozen. If your mouse doesn't move, press the power button on your Dell until the computer turns off. Press it again to restart. If the issue was lack of memory or a locked program, this will unlock your keyboard. Continue to Step 3 if the keyboard is still locked.

3. Shut down your computer using your mouse or power button. Don't restart. Unplug your Dell.

4. Remove the battery if you're using a laptop by turning the laptop over and sliding the battery release latch. Slide the battery out and replace after one minute.

Have a good one!

    setting is stored..
it's located under the tape where the pcicma socket is..close to edge of the board

    Function keys F1 thru F12 don't work

Keyboard might have gone bad. Try hooking up a external keyboard and see if they work. If they don't then you have a motherboard issue. If they do then it is a keyboard issue. If you lucky it is just a keyboard then you can get one here for 20 bucks.

    Most programmes utilise keyboard shortcuts.
It says which key combinations will perform which command next to the options on the drop down menus when you click on file, edit, view, etc.
These shortcuts usually a letter key in combination with ctrl key, alt key , sometimes ctrl+shift.
Possibly you are pressing the ctrl key at same time when you press the shift key?

Look at your Function keys. It will be either F3, or F5 depending on model. Just look for the key with the picture of a little monitor on it. Some models use 2 different keys to go back and forth between outputs. These keys toggle the video between the laptops LCD and an external monitor.

Hold down the "FN" key (located on the lower left of the keyboard), while tapping the above mentioned Function key.

    Wireless switch

do you mean to turn the wireless on?
I am not familur with the 400 but I think the wireless is on/off by the operating system. at the very least it will be on the key pad.
there are function keys FN that need to be pressed at the same time as the wireless symble on the keyboard. that could possibley turn on/off wireless. then the rest is in the software. it needs to be set up.
    get back to me:)
