repost with more specific . motor aka fan is running?stat is set to heat and max heat? how old? general progression is as follows. stat says its cold. signal is sent to gas valve to open. gas valve looks to see if pilot is lit via thermocouple. if pilot is lit then main valve opens and burner lights. shortly thereafter sufficient heat builds up to trip heat sensor that turns on fan and blows hot air into house.many times a tripped safty causes a default fan response. aka when you show up the fan is on 24 7 . that equals a failed safety and needs a pro tech to see why saftyfailed.

Pilot light keeps going out on furnace. Ruud gas furnace, (20+)

When a pilot lite habitually goes out the thermocople has failed. The are pretty cheap. If you remove yours and go to a local applicane parts center they can provide you with one the same lenght as your current one for a much cheaper price than a plumbing and heating source. In the process of changing the thermocouple when you disconnect it from the gas control valve take a Q-tip and clean the mating area as best you can. You can try cleaning that mating area before changing the thermocouple first. You might just get lucky and not have to buy a new one.
This is not a hard task. It is a bit tedious to get to the area near the flame head but I am pretty sure you can do this. Just make sure the new thermocople is positioned like the one you removed.

There is a very very remote possibility that the gas control itself is failing but I doubt it. You still would have to change the thermocouple first in order to troubleshoot.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Flip the lower panel over and look for a wiring diagram. On that diagram there will be a diagnostic chart. Let me know what 5 blinks represent. Then I want you to read on.

On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

RUUD model P2-50F1. The pilot light is burning, but the thermostat doesn't turn the burner on. I can turn the temperature up on the thermostat, and it will run. Feels like it sticks a little.

sounds like the unit goes in lockout mode which shutting off the power and putting it back on will reset the computer now the next time it happens dont shut off the power and in the blower compartment on the board there will be a blinking light count how many times and on the door it will explain do not remove the door until you have counted the beeps throgh the little hole

Ruud urgh07e36jkr heater wont turn on

Well I checked and the pilot would light and then go off right away and repeat.I jumped the 24v terminal to the pv pilot valve terminal on the ignition module and the main burner lit up. I then disconnected the spark igniter and the burner shut off and it tried ti relight producing hi energy sparks from the ignition module. So I ordered the module from american hvac parts online and replaced it. I recieved an updated module and had to hook up the 24v to the th-w terminal to make it work the old module was a s86ooh
And i just searched the new model number to figure out how to make it work. The new one has self diagnostics on it. It cost 208$ with shipping
