SOURCE: beep and yellow green light problem

It sounds like you may need a new battery. The batteries are continuously tested by the UPS and it could be that the voltage is passing one test, and failing the next which is resulting in the light flashing. You can test the battery with a voltmeter. It should read over 11.5 volts, if not you need a new battery set. You can get batteries from http://www.batteryinternational.com/ups-batteries-apc-batteries.html

SOURCE: APC Back-UPS ES 500: green light flashes&continuous warning tone

On this unit, the likely culprit is the battery and that it needs to be replaced.

With that, you may want to think about the pros and cons of replacement versus buying an entirely new unit.

This unit is a relatively low end ups and the surge supression uses MOVs that wear out with repeated absorption of energetic spikes. That's why the better (and higher cost) UPSs and surge suppressors don't use them. They're not really that good anyway due to their relatively high transient impedance. The better equipment uses a "transorb" -- basically a back-to-back high voltage zener diode optimized for low breakover impedance and high instantaneous power capability. Unless the transient exceeds the design parameters of the circuit, these do not wear out and do not degrade. That being said, I will assume that you would likely replace this unit with a similar one.
The flashing may not be the battery at all and may be the charging circuitry, thus your new battery may not live very long (half the life that you would expect.

Many batteries out there are refurbs and have issues as all used parts do.

If you contact APC, they will likely give you a 35% discount on purchasing a new product.

The difference in price in the battery replacement vs. ups replacement at this level may only be a few dollars more.

I promise that I am not a UPS salesman, I just deal with many on a daily basis; therefore I am giving my two cents to try to thelp you avoid problems a year from now.

A blinking green light is likely an indication that the internal battery is nearing the end of its usable life cycle. If it's over 3 years old this is likely the case. To test, plug something in to the battery outlets and pull the plug of the UPS from the wall. If you get a short runtime (or none at all) it's the battery. Batteries are under $20 and can be found here: http://www.batteryinternational.com/apc-backups-es-be350u-ups-battery-ups-batteries-f1.html

A blinking green light indicates it's on battery.
Possible Causes:
  • Your power is out

I have an APC BE350U battery backup. When power is removed, all connected equipment stops and the unit beeps four times every 30 seconds. I have removed the battery from the case and checked the power...

Hi,

The output on the battery should be around 14V, not 115V. If the unit is not holding the equipment powered when you remove the power, you need to get a replacement battery. The BE350 uses a 12v 3.5. Make sure to buy a high quality battery in order to get a good and reliable run time.

Alarm sounds. I have had this unit more than 3 years so it cold be the battery I reset it and seems that it stop for the meantime. If sounds again is going to be the battery right?

Hello,

Yes, The batteries on UPS units last about 3 years and then they need to be replaced. Your unit is beeping because it is telling you to replace it. If the battery is not replaced it can damage the UPS unit. A replacement battery only runs about $15-18 so it is worth the price to do it.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

My apc keeps clicking and the on line and on battery lights keep blinking

Often, it is an expired battery that will cause an issue like this. Since a bad battery renders the APC ups useless, it will usually display blinking lights to let you know that something is wrong. The software, if installed, will also help troubleshoot the problem. You find which battery you need from this site: http://batteryinternational.com/ups-batteries-apc-batteries.html

Smart UPS 1500 - battery level green lights blink on and off

You need to run recalibration on the unit.  The supplied PowerChute software & cable will allow you to do this if you hook the UPS up to a PC (I know it works with the serial cable, not sure about USB).  If you only have a MAC then I cannot offer a solution other than to buy the standalone PowerView device from APC.  It will cost a bit more than a battery, but may save you from buying needless batteries in the future.  I finally broke down an bought one, but note that I was still having the problem after the 1st recalibration.  By trial and error (and maybe a vague memory) I put my MAC in sleep mode, that dropped the load to stop the lights from flashing.  Then I recalibrated with a 22% load and now it finally seems better (lights no longer flashing).  This was with a Smart-UPS 1000.
Let me know if that helps.
