Hotpoint Aqarius WF740 with fault F-01

I have a hotpoint aqarius WF740. In the final spin of the cycle I heard an odd noise that made me look over at the machine. A few seconds later I saw a bright spark under the machine and the house fuse blew. There is a slight smell of burning in the air. The machine now says F-01. What has happened? The machine is only 3 years old, but we have had frequent problems with various parts. Is it cost effective to fix, or time to get a new one? Any ideas?

I concur with the previous assesment of the problem for error code F01, it is indeed a short circuit motor triac.
How ever , at this stage, I would suggest you remove the motor, clean the armature with emery cloth, and see if there is any obvious sign of a short circuit on the armature, if it looks o/k then I would speculate on fittng a new pair of carbons as opposed tro replacing the motor.
I have often done this myself and found in 9 cases out of ten, this does the trick.
If it still does not work , then there is no guarantee that fitting a new motor will solve the prob, as there is a distinct possibility it could have blown the pcb as well.
Then you would have bought a new motor for nothing and this would put it beyond economical repair.
Plz rate my comments.

On the Hotpoint series, F-01 is a short circuit on the motor triac. This component controls the variable amount of power to the motor.
As it has shorted out - the probable cause IS the motor itself, so I would start getting quotes for a replacement motor for this model.

Personally I would opt to swap it for a second-hand Zanussi, with a minor fault, rather than a major one like this.
If you do get a second hand-machine, buy a set of brushes for the motor to give it a new lease of life.- They're only cheap. When they fail - they can blow the motor up as I think you've just found out.

Hotpoint washer wf740 empties but will not spin

Possible the program does not move to the next cycle. Please choose a different program and see if the same result comes back. If so the controller unit is a suspect.
Finally check the drain pump, check the water level sensor and the inlet water flow so that the inputs data send is correct to the processor board..

I have got a Hotpoint Aquarius + WF740 1400 spin speed. When the drum is moving slow inbetween cycles there is a wereing noise, In the wash cycle it clunks but it's ok in spin mode. When I move the drum...

there could be something stuck between the inner and outer drum, eg. a bra wire a common culprit.
inside the drum you have 3 lifters ( blue pillars). remove one of these by pulling it towards you.this will allow you to see into the inner drum. get a flash lamp and have a good look rotating the inner drum around.
if you see anything get a pair of pliers to pull in out as you cant get a nasty cut.
replace lifter as u removed it.
if bearings were gone would sound like a tractor while spinning.

Hotpoint wf740 aquarius 1400 v noisy banging during spin = dust

It could be a broken drum restraint spring, or a worn or broken. or loose shock absorber.
To check the springs, remove the top cover, and you will see the springs.
Another possibility is the concrete weight could be broken or loose.
You need to remove the lower rear panel of washer to check the shockers and concrete weight.

You can attempt to reset the water level, but it sounds like that system is malfunctioning and going to require service.
