Question about Zebra S Series 160S Thermal Printer

1 Answer

Zebra 160S doesn't print the first 1 o 2 mm of label.

This printer was able to print everything in the label format before, at the very bottom of it there are some barcodes with human readable numbers.  I had to factory default it and now the very bottom is missing 1mm of printing.   The numbers at the bottom are missing the bottom half.   I have done full calibration, front-panel calibration, if I move the top of form up, the whole thing goes up on the label, yes but still missing the bottom. (of course the bottom of the labels is the first thing it comes out from printer)   There are not formats uploaded to printer, each time code is sent to printer.
What puzzles me is why it was able to print nice, then it misses the bottom.   Obviusly something is missing, but what?   Thanks in advance Izzy

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

My zebra printer TLP 3844-z prints one label only, then stops and flashes red. It doesn't print subsequent labels.

There are 2 possible causes for this

1. Printhead not closed - check it is closed properly.

2. Either the ribbon or media is out. This cold also be a sensor problem. But it is worthwhile checking everything is loaded correctly.

If your running this printer off a serial port you may be getting a buffer overrun. I'm guessing that your using X on X off Handshaking so perhaps you could fix the problem by slowing down the baud rate. You need to change this both on the printer and on the PC that's driving it.

You will notice that there may be a slow down in "First Label Out" but it may solve the issue. If that doesn't do it then you might want DTR / DSR handshaking but you may need a different interface cable that support it.

I have Zebra LP 2844-Z printer and the barcodes

Here are 3 suggestions.

1
Check that your label size definition is correct, measure your label height in mm and check that your printer driver settings match.

2
Perform a calibration. How?? when printer is on labels loaded and green light, hold feed key and wait for 2 blinks then release feed key. (If you release it after 1 flash you will print a configuration label)

3
If you are using Zebra Designer, download latest version of Zdesigner V2. Install latest printer driver V2.63. This driver & Zdesigner allows you to calibrate the printer directly from within Zdesigner. Go to File/Printer settings/ advanced options and click calibrate at bottom of page. when printer calibrates then tick the box USE PRINTER SETTINGS and printer will now work properly.

Got a Zebra 160S thermal printer with no software disk. It was lost in a move. Where can I find one?

Download printer driver from Zebra website, also download Zebra Designer label design software (Free). If you just need the windows printer driver best to download from seagull scientific site. Their drivers work better than zebra's one.

Same problem with 160S

The 160S has a different main logic board, which the processor is different. I wonder if you could try and open up the cache. There is a ZPL command for that, which is COY. You can find this in the ZPL programming manual on the website. I can supply the link if you are still in need of a fix.
