sounds like an electrical fault in the handle
take it back for a warranty exchange or refund
Iron handles do not get hot
only the sole plate does

To disassemble the Russell Hobbs 15081steam glide iron, you have to remove the two hidden screws on the handle. To locate the first screw remove the two adjacent blue buttons which are each held in with two hidden clips front and rear, so lever out with small screwdriver or similar. The second hidden screw is under the pivots of the water inlet lid.(I broke one of the plastic pivots but no big deal). Then using a thin blade, separate the top half of the handle from the bottom half of the handle. A bit of force is needed as there are more plastic clips. I started from the rear.
Once the top half the handle is removed, other screws become visible, so teardown is not hard, just note which screws go where, as they are different lengths.
My problem was that some of the screws/bolts were so corroded I needed to drill them out. The thermostat was also corroded, which probably explained why the thermal fuse had blown. The element was fine.

Remove the handle on the iron. Then fill the opening with two measures of table salt, using the handle's device to measure the salt. Add 2 oz. of water in the opening, then reattach the handle. Connect the handle and plug into an outlet. After a few seconds, the iron should begin steaming. It is then ready to use.

you just open it and look for whats wrong in your iron.... or the handle in it is not compatable in the iron soo put some leather on the handle...

I purchased a silicone heat protector for a pot handle and sewed it together with dental floss around the iron handle

replace the o-ring gasket on the tank fill cap. It is a simple neoprene "O" ring you can buy at your local hardware or NAPA aauto parts store for less than $3.00.

We had the same problem and we fixed it by taking off the handle section and putting in a new spring (it looks like a little pin actually).  We tried it because we were not in the US anymore and didn't mind breaking it so do this at your own risk.  It did work though.  When (if) you open it up you'll see how flimsy the pin is.  Its hardly surprising.  Go lightly wit the button after this.
