Question about Samsung HLN617W 61" Rear Projection HDTV
Hello, We bought this tv (Samsung DLP Hln617W) end of 2004 and had to replace the bulb last year. Now a couple days ago i'm watching and hear a pop and then the picture goes out, so i turned it off. Next day we turn it on and we have picture, but only in black and white (not a negative looking type of picture) just no color on the picture or any of the menu or control panels that are brought up on the screen. Any idea what the problem might be? i've read this tv has a color wheel. Could that be it? Unfortunately, we are not under warranty. Thanks for your time - Colleen
It could be the color wheel and in fact probably is. I've seen them shatter which would explain the noise. They are glass and spinn at 9000 rpm. An involved repair though definatley a job for a pro. It could be worse, probably a few hundred will do it. Was the TV begining to be a little loud before the failure? Could be a sign, i've seen many noisy color wheels.
