This happened to me and it was because my brother had taken all the RAM chips from my computer. Check the seating of your chips, check for dust free connection to motherboard, or as last resort, replace RAM.

The beeps you hear are BIOS Beep Codes. The computer's way of telling you something is wrong, and an area to start looking into for the problem.

As the name states, it is a Code. A single beep, or a series of beeps.
(One single beep means ram memory count passed)

Your BIOS Beep Code is 1 single long beep, (Pause), and 3 short beeps; (Pause), followed by 2 long beeps.

1-3-2

A) Computer unplugged from power, Anti-Static Precautions followed; remove all Ram Memory modules. ('Stick')

If you do not know about Anti-Static Precautions DO NOT reach inside your computer; post back in a Comment.

Clean the gold plated contact pins with a pencil eraser.
If you are using an eraser on the end of a pencil, and not a solid eraser, refrain from letting the metal band of the pencil touch the contact pins.

Handle the Ram Memory module by the BODY.
The Body is everywhere on the Ram Memory module, EXCEPT the gold plated contact pins at the bottom.
The Body is coated with a see-through protective plastic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Generic_DDR_Memory_%28Xytram%29.jpg

Rub up, and down on EACH contact pin. BOTH sides.
Doesn't take much rubbing, nor a lot of pressure.
In fact when you are finished, the contact pins may not be bright, and shiny.
You have cleaned them I assure you. Doesn't take much 'corrosion' to make a bad contact surface.

Use air to remove the eraser dust. If you have a can of compressed air available, use it. If not air pressure from your mouth will be sufficient.
(If compressed air is available, also use it on the Ram Memory slots)

Just in case;
Note there is a Locating Notch on the bottom of the Ram Memory module. At a casual glance it may look to be centered.
It is NOT.

(DDR Sdram, DDR2 Sdram, and DDR3 Sdram ram memory. DDR Sdram example is shown in link above.
Sdram, or it's proper name; SDR Sdram, has TWO locating notches)

The Locating Notch lines up with a Locating Lug, in the bottom of the Ram Memory slot on the motherboard.
(Or two Locating Lugs for SDR Sdram)

ONLY goes in one way; one direction.

The bottom corners of the Ram Memory module sit down in the bottom corner, of the Lock.
With ram memory module Locating Notch properly lined up, with the Locating Lug, the bottom corners of the module are set down into the two Locks.

When you press straight down, the Locks come up, and Lock into place. Click, click.

(The ram memory modules have Side Notches.

There is a 'bump', or protrusion on the Lock, which fits into the Side Notch, when the ram memory is properly in place, and seated correctly.

Note* The 'bump' on the Lock will not fit EXACTLY into the Side Notch. Close is good. You SHOULD hear a click though, when the Lock is properly in the Locked position )

Also make sure the inside of your computer is clean. The two leading causes of desktop computer failure is;
1) Computer is dirty inside
2) Bad Power Supply. (Weak voltage power rail)

IF, you have never replaced the Thermal Paste on the Processor, this would be a real good time.
Thermal Paste dries up over time, and even if it doesn't, it loses it's thermal conductivity properties over time.

What is the model number? Back of computer next to the Windows product key, or up on the side of the computer tower. Post back in a Comment.

was your vostro 230 third generation? meaning, did it use DDR2 memory before or always had DDR3? They are not compatible. 2nd generation computers cannot use third gen parts. cpu, ram, most none of that type stuff. the motherboards are different and cannot change. if it was ddr2 memory you have to use ddr2, not ddr3, hope that helps.

My Dell dimension 2400 monitor doesn't work when connected to my tower. It appears that it's off when I connect it to the Dell Dimension 2400 tower, but when I connect the same monitor to another computer,...

Hi! For dell machines when u unplug the video cable/VGA from the tower while the system is on it will show monitor self test.If you are seeing a black box moving around the screen it means that monitor is ok.Check connection between monitor and tower.Make sure cables are securely plugged in.Check if the tower is ok. There is a possibility that your monitor is ok but the tower is not.check the power button (whats the color) if amber/orange, this means there is something wrong the the tower. If its blue or white it means its ok.Also check if you are going to hear one beep, it means system is booting up properly. If tower is ok and you are using a expansion video card then try to use internal one, normally its the vga port above the usbs.If you are going to use onboard video card make sure you enable it first in bios.If all things fail, contact your manufacturer, if the system is under warranty then they will send a tech to check the machine.hope this helps...

My computer is beeping at me during startup, and will not go past the load screen.... dell b110

The POWER LED on the front of the tower should be solid Green, If Solid Amber or Flashing Amber, there is either a power or MB problem. On the back of the tower are 4 LEDs the when posting normally are all Green. If YYGG for example, then you have a memory failure. Dell vista will not boot up

Typically, it's a memory problem. If you have multiple memory modules, leave one in the CPU at a time and boot your system todetermine which module is bad. Good luck.

Tower pushing out air and beeping and can't turn on PC

the beeping is post codes. they are telling you something is wrong. the code is a code for what is wrong like 3 beeps 4 beeps 1 Beep then repeatsthat code is 341. first thing i would do is pull out you ram and reseat it. that is the most common problem.

Beeping Upon Bootup

dependent on how many beeps you hear is dependent on what might be the problem. A fuller explanation from pushing the power button to nothing happening would be more than helpful. Beeps in a Poweredge can mean motherboard, memory or as you said power supply problems.
