Question about Dryers

Top of Dryer getting scalding hot

I have a Frigidaire (model #FER211FS), we bought brand new 4 years ago. The dryer worked fine at the old house, we just moved and the top right hand side of the dryer is getting burning hot (you cant even touch it). I opened up the lid and that is where all the wires are and there was a burning smell. Is it time I need to get a new dryer or is this fixable without spending a ton of money?

Thank you Tom!! I am calling the apartment maintenance to see if they can come and check the duct work to see if there is a clog. I pray this is the problem. Thanks

It sound like you have a venting problem. The air from the dryer is probably restricted by either a clogged exhaust hose or duct work in house or a stuck vent flap where air blows to the outside. If your vent goes straight up to the roof, something may be blocking the exit or the whole line may be clogged. Also check for a kinked flex hose that attaches to the dryer. If blockage is in wall of house, there are vent cleaning companies that can clean out the line.

Your problem could be caused by a bad felt seal..the drum rotates against this seal. The purpose of the seal is to seal the hot air from going out of the drum and into the room.
Remove the front of the dryer and this should expose the drum and felt seal.

Plug dryer in wall wont start

The most obvious thing to me is that the cord may have been loosened or damaged by the move, or the terminals in the machine may have loosened. Either test the cord on your "new" machine, or replace it with a known "good" cord. Wait a minute....you already have one of those....
Try it, it may be the very thing!

Dryer gets hot and shuts off after five minutes,

Check your vent tube to make sure it is clear. It is probably getting to hot because there is no ventilation to the outside. When you have the front off, check all the way from the lint filter to the outsid of the house.

Frigidare Gas Dryer - get some heat, but NOT hot enough!!

You say its a gas dryer...there is no element. Have you cleaned the lint trap. Is the vent clear of obstructions? I suspect one of these issues will be the problem

You are supposed to remove the top of the washer, and the dryer feet lock into brackets...but being lazy I just bolted the dryer to the washer using some metal straps (1/16" x 8 x 4 ") with some machine screws, and it's been fine for years. Not pretty, but I had the same question and no handy internet to help me at the time ;P
