Question about Heating & Cooling
I have a Trane XR12 today it got a tad bit chilly not much but i wanted to get the house a bit toasty anyways, I noticed that the air wasn't coming out warm, then it was, i looked at it because i thought it was odd, and it switched to Aux heat. that is the only way the heat will work, it is switching to AUX heat by it's self i live in South Ga so it doesn't get cold enough for the AUX heat, the outside fan works, everythign seems to be working fine but it wont stop switching to AUX heat any suggestions on what might cause this?
Sounds like the compressor is not running. Possibly a bad capacitor. Check system in cooling, see if it cools. If it does cool then you likely have a reversing valve issue. Good Luck!!

The aux switch is for electric heat banks installed in the air handler. Depending on the outside temp. it may not be efficient to run in heat pump mode but in aux. or emergency would run the electric heat in the air handler.

Let's start out by your statement that the fan would not run, then you changed the contactor, not it won't stop running.
I believe, based on your info, here's what you need to do. Kill power to the unit. The 2 wires bringing power to the outdoor unit should be on the top 2 terminals. The 2 fan wires should be on the bottom 2 terminals. This is providing that the contactor is mounted Vertical. The could be an outside chance that the unit has a short in it and you are getting voltage feedback somewhere.
Take another look.
