Question about HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook
I own a HP DV4000 series Laptop that came with a standard CD RW/DVD Rom, HP part # 391649-6C0. I recently purchased a DVD±RW LightScribe, 8X IDE Dual Layer Drive (HP part #396704-001).
This new drive is supposed to be compatible with my laptop. The new drive is ABLE to play DVD's and recognizes CD's but is NOT recognized as a recorder. I tried using several different programs, (Roxio, Nero, Sonic) to burn DVD's or CD's but I get a message from the programs saying "the program could not detect any supported decoders. Please ensure your recorder is properly connected."
I tried reinstalling the DVD/CD drive, checking the plug & play, & updating the drivers but have had no success. I also tried the boot sequance in the BIOS but again no success.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps
