Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9564J Top Load Washer

Whirlpool Toploader won't spin with a heavy load.

The washing machine almost always (although you can never say never) will not spin an even slightly heavy load. The motor is definitely running and it will drain when it does spin. It used to clunk around alot if a load was out of balance, but no longer does that either. Where should I look first.....I'm a novice with washers.

It is definitely not the agitator (although that does not do the best job either).........the clothes will not spin at all.

Do you mean it won't spin or won't agitate? Agitate means that the post in the middle (agitator) turns back and forth. It is very common for the agitator to stop working properly, especially if you normally do large loads.

Inside the agitator are little nylon feet called dogs. They grip the inside of the agitator and work like a centrifugal clutch, and they wear out every couple of years. They are normally the reason the machine won't agitate. I have had my washer for less than 4 years and I just replaced the dogs for the second time.

If you are handy with some simple tools, you can probably do this. If not, it should not cost too much to repair, and will be even cheaper if you remove the agitator and bring it with you to the repair shop. They did not even charge me the first time the dogs went because it took about 10 minutes to fix and I brought the agitator to them.

To replace the dogs, go to your local repair shop and tell them you need a set of agitator dogs for your washer. I paid $10 for them.

Pull off the fabric softener dispenser top and assembley. It just pulls out. There is a plastic disk with a handle on it. Pull this out and you will see a bolt. I believe it is an 11mm. You will need a couple of extensions to reach it. Remove this bolt by turning counter clockwise and the agitator will pick strait up. Place the agitator on the floor and press down on the base with your feet. If you look down into the agitator you will will see four small holes in a circular pattern. These holes have small plastic prongs coming through them. Using a screwdriver, gently press down on these prongs one at a time while pulling up (gently) on the agitator. This will release the agitator post from the base.

From the underside of the agitator post you can see the dog assembly. It pulls out easily. Pay close attention to how the dogs come out and put the replacements back in the same way. I repeat, PAY ATTENTION. It is a simple assembly process, but if you don't watch closely how it comes apart you may have a hard time putting it back together.

When you finish replacing the dogs, place the top of the agitator back on the base. Line up the pastic tabs with the holes (that you removed using the screwdriver) and carefully press down until the tabs snap through. If the tabs are not lined up with the holes, they will break off and that will be bad.

Place the agitator back in the washer, bolt it down, replace the plastic cover and fabric softener dispenser. It should be good to go. Do a trial run without clothes. Just push down on the top of agitator while it is in the agitation cycle. It should agitate correctly now.

The spinning thing won't spin all of a sudden. The washer is making a lot of noise and will drain but won't spin. How do you take the back off?

The motor has a double pole on it. The pump is driven on one side of the motor. The basket is driven on the other end of the motor. So if the water is pumped out then the lid switch is fine. What you have is a broken drive coupler. Usually breaks on a heavy load like rugs or quilts. Low water on a heavy load can break it too. Or simply old age.

Washer won't spin during rinse cycle. agitates fine during was cycle.

The lid switch is probably your culprit. the washer won't spin or drain if the lid switch is defective. Try pushing down on it with a pen or small screwdriver and see if it will spin then. There should be a slight clicking nois when it is activated, although it will sometimes click even though it is not working.

Spins out of balance even emty

This model of washer does not have an out of balance cut off switch. If the load is not balanced properly the tub could hit the cabinet sides. If the unit spins evenly while empty & out of balance while loaded, I recommend checking & balancing the load. If the basket spins out of balance while empty, I recommend having the suspension springs & balance ring checked. Be sure not to wash light fabric with heavy fabric clothes. Also ensure that the adjustable feet are level, that's most important.

Whirlpool front load washer won't spin - just sometimes

Most Whirlpool (Hotpoint) machines have "out of balance" sensors that detect very large movements of the drum suspension usually due to a very badly balanced washing load.
This can occur for various reasons but putting large and/or heavy items in can trigger these sensors i,f as the machine starts to spin, the items dont get distributed evenly around the drum. This is more likley with large/heavy items.
The machine will then restrict the spin speed for the remainder of the wash cycle, and once the machine is switched off, the next time the machine is used it returns the spin speed back to normal - but if it detects an out of balance situation, it will again restrict the spin speed.
It sounds to me the machine is acting as designed. You could try positioning the items differently as you load them, and hope they dont end up "all over one side".

Whirpool duet is making a clacking noise on the spin cycle.

Reach inside and see if there is any play to the inner/spin tub (up and down) . Tub may be seperating from mounting and spindle assembly.
