I lost my manual, I need to know how to transform the crib into a toddler bed

Converting a Simplicity Crib into a Toddler Bed:

Please note, Simplicity has gone out of business and the Simplicity Cribs should NOT be used as cribs. They were sold at Walmart, Target and BabiesRUs. The word on the street is that Walmart is the easiest to deal with when it comes to returning them. Those who wish to return Simplicity cribs don't need a receipt, they can just take them to Walmart for store credit. BabiesRUs was apparently giving about $65 while Walmart was closer to $190. Again, this is just what I have heard from others.

You can find the specific information on the Simplicity recall here.

If you do want to use your Simplicity crib as a Toddler Bed, I have not read any warnings against this. Again, I might just take it to Walmart anyway and get a store credit and perhaps buy a new convertible crib. You can get some great ones on Amazon for around $150 with delivery included.

I would pack it up, take it in for store credit, and get a new crib!

You can get some great deals these days on cribs, there's a great one on Amazon for $150 with free shipping so it's kind of a no-brainer.

As I have heard, Walmart will take it back, no questions asked and no receipt necessary and you can get a brand new one with brand new parts, brand new instructions and no recalls or risks!

Good Luck.

If you still want to convert it, here is what you need to do:

1. Remove the front panel of the Simplicity crib. Use an Allen wrench and 45mm bolts (there should be extras underneath the crib, along with an Allen wrench, but if there aren't then you can pick some up at your local hardware store.)

2. Check the mattress support. It needs to be in the lowest position available, which will allow the toddler to get in and out of bed easily. It is also the only position that will make the rails line up properly with the pre-drilled bolt holes. To lower the mattress, unscrew the four bolts from the four corners of the mattress support and slide the support down. The holes for the lowest setting are just about the bottom wood panels. Use your Allen wrench to reattach the mattress support with the same bolts you pulled out when the mattress was in the higher position.

3. Attach the toddler bed rails to the crib frame. Use two 38mm Allen bolts on each rail. There are pre-drilled holes in both the rail and the crib frame. Line up the holes and then loosely screw the bolts into place. The bottom of each rail has a metal L-shaped hook. This will slide under the mattress support. Use a 19mm Allen bolt to attach this piece to the mattress support. When everything is lined up and screwed in loosely, go back and tighten each bolt. Repeat on the other side.

4. Check the entire crib frame for loose bolts. Use the Allen wrench to tighten all the screws. Toddlers can be rough on their beds, so it is important to make sure the bed is safe. You should recheck for loose bolts often. Jumping and climbing on the bed can easily loosen the bolts and screws.

5. Don't forget to hang onto the front panel and store it carefully, you will need it later to convert the bed into a full sized bed.

I have a canton 4-1 crib but have lost the manual on how to assemble it into a full size bed, does anyone know where i can obtain this information, thanks

Are you sure you lost the manual? It took us all day to discover it was attached to the crib base under the mattress. We have a different simplicity crib but it needs either rails or you buy a full-size bed frame from a mattress store and attach it with the headboard adaptor plates and screws they gave you.

Hardware manual for simplicity 8676C crib lost during move

This crib has been recalled by the CPSC, I just found that out tonight, I have one too. The crib killed an infant in Massachusets, you should immediately stop using it and return it to the store where you bought it.

Is this crib on the recall

Yes it is under the recall.

The death of two more infants trapped in Simplicity bassinets prompted the Consumer Product Safety Commission to re-announce its August 2008 recall of the child beds on Thursday.

The recall was first announced last year after the death of two other children. A total of four deaths have been reported to the commission involving Simplicity bassinets.

The recall includes more than 900,000 bassinets sold as far back as 2001 and as recently as last year.

The hazard in the Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible bassinets stems from metal bars spaced farther apart than federal standards allow, the commission said.

If Velcro-attached fabric that covers metal bars on the bassinet is attached improperly, a pocket can be created where children can become trapped, the commission said.

Children also can become stuck between the bassinet's metal bars without the fabric attached, the agency said.

In the latest two incidents, a 6-month-old girl in Fort Worth died in January after she was trapped between two exposed bars on the bassinet.

In September 2008, a 2-month-old girl in Demorest, Ga., suffocated when she was caught in a pocket of fabric, which was not properly secured to the bassinet.

The commission also received two other reports involving 10-week-old and 3-month-old infants whose heads became trapped between the bassinet's lower bar and mattress. The infants were freed and uninjured, the commission said.

The recalled bassinets were manufactured before May 18, 2008, and include some sold under the Graco brand and others with Winnie the Pooh characters printed on the bed's fabric.

Simplicity is owned by children's furniture manufacturer SFCA Inc. of Reading, Pa.

The model numbers for recalled Simplicity bassinets are: 3000, 3010, 3011, 3012, 3013, 3014, 3015, 3016, 3017, 3020, 3025, 3026, 3027, 3030, 3040, 3045, 3046, 3047, 3050, 3060, 3070, 3111, 3112, 343-8363, 343-8399, 5730, 5750, 8383, 9250 and TD250, the commission said.

Model numbers on the recalled Graco-branded bassinets include: 3000CL, 3010HAV, 3011WHE, 3011WHK, 3014NGS, 3016LAU, 3017NCB, 3025C, 3030SAR, 3050SAR, 3111DPC, 3111ZOL, 3112DOH, 3122TGT, 5730FKB, 5750SAR, 8393, Graco said in its own recall statement.

Owners of the recalled bassinets can return the beds to the stores where they bought them, the safety commission said. Sources: http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-crib-recall21-2009aug21,0,4022989.story

Simplicity 4-in-1 crib model 8676c replacmnt prts

The company is out of business. Although your's in NOT one of the recalled items, you will not be able to contact them or buy parts.
Have you tried other hardware stores aside from Home Depot? You could also try an automotive store...sometimes they have those odd sizes.
Please read the following:
About 1 Million Simplicity Cribs Recalled Due To Failures Resulting in Infant Deaths.
Note: The firm appears to no longer conduct day-to-day operations. Repair kits are no longer available to fix these recalled cribs. Parents and caregivers are advised to dispose of these cribs, even if it is believed that the hardware and drop side have been installed correctly. All of the recalled cribs have the potential to pose a danger to young children.
The recalled cribs have one of the following model numbers, which can be found on the envelope attached to the mattress support and on the label attached to the headboard: 4600, 4605, 4705, 5000, 8000, 8324, 8800, 8740, 8910, 8994, 8050, 8750, 8760, and 8996.

tell any one you know to take it back to the store they got it at, they are giving full refunds, if given any hassle tell them to contact their local BBB or CSP, as Simplicity, may be "out of Business" but Simplicity for Children (their new Name) is the exact same company as you mentioned, still making the same products, to get help in getting their money back

they are the same company who made the cribs recalled under the drop side recall a year ago (Graco name was on some of the cribs) but they were all made by Simplicity or Simplicity for children

All that really happened is the company Simplicity was bought out by another company and took the new name Simplicity for Children, who is very much alive and well

The BBB has assisted many other consumers with getting parts for other items made by the old company from them New named company even though they said "the parts do not exist" they magically appear after the BBB calls them.
