This would definately sound life a signal problem. Freeview signals can vary quite alot in strength.But you should have it on a solid surface to protect it from heat

Check all aerial connections carefully. Is the aerial cable clean (not having corrosion) - the lower 3ft of mine was green with years of corrosion and had to be cut off.
