Question about Chicco Keyfit 30 Magic Infant Car Seat - Rattania

Open Question

LATCH attachment system straps are too short for Center of Back Seat connection

I want to install my Key Fit 30 Magic in the center of my back seat in a 2010 Chevy 1500 4 Door Truck but the Latch attachment straps that clip into the steel contacts of the truck are too short. The system works fine in my wifes 2004 Durango as it is a more narrow seat. It also works fine if I attach the LATCH clips to the passenger side or drivers side seat, but I prefer for safety sakes to have my child in the center and the LATCH attachments will not reach.

Can't lift rear bottom seat up to put down back of seat for cargo hauling. Seat bottom will not budge and I can feel the strap is still attached to the bar that should be moving up but isn't.

it is rusted to the latch. soak the latch under the seat with wd-40 and wait a day. then try again. if it doesn't work then use a screw driver to pry open the seized latch.

I have a 2003 2 door sunfire. I am installing a infant car seat base using the latch system instead of the seat belt. Can I do this in the middle of the back seat or does it have to go at one of the...

Ideally if there is a middle set of latches in the seat, you can install an infant car seat base there. If the seat has any kind of hump or other irregularity then it should not be installed there. Although the middle of the back seat is safest for a child, most vehicle do not have a latch system there. However most cars do have a lap belt for the center seat and that should be used if you decide to place your car seat.

Do not use the latches from either side of the right back and left seat. The latch system is designed to be a specific distance apart to work correctly. If you don' want to use the lap belt then you should put the child seat on either the left or right back seat using the latch system.

I need to put the shlder/lap strap back in

the center of the belt will be under the seat coming up through the holes, place the two clips on the strap followed by the chest clip, then the neck protector pads. Push the ends of the strap through the two top holes. Route it down over the metal but under the plastic (on the back side) and attach both ends to the metal adjuster underneath. The receiver clip, you just turn 90 degrees and push through desired hole until the end catches.

Trouble removing snugride base from car

If the base was installed by someone who put their body weight on it to get it really tight, try to do the following:

If you are able, climb in the car and place your knee in the center of the seat base and put your weight onto it. Then, at the same time, try to pinch the clip end of the latch belt (the strap part that is attached to the car seat base) and push the clip away from you (toward the seat) to remove it from the metal latch loop/ring (the part of the latch system that's actually part of your car).

If this doesn't work, you can try to loosen the strap a little while leaning on the base, and then try to push the clip forward and out of the latch ring.

Where in the back seat should it be installed for forward facing

Is there a center strap for the latch system that comes from the top? This is the one that adds a lot of stability. There should be a connection on the back deck or dash of your vehicle. If it's a truck/SUV/Van, sometimes they don't have one. In this case I would use the seatbelt instead and tighten it down as much as possible.

Where do i attatch the straps in the back?

The straps that are attached to the seat are supposed to be used with the LATCH system that has been built into newer cars. You use the straps on the carseat to hook into metal loops under the seat instead of using the seat belt. If you aren't sure whether you have the latch system in your car or not, consult your owners manual or call a dealership and they should be able to tell you.

Booster seat

Converting the seat to a booster: (Alpha Omega Elite Deluxe 2004 version, Eddie Bauer)
After all said and done, the base can probably be left on, it helps to recline the chair when the child is asleep. If you want to leave it out, the manual says the base can be removed for narrow vehicle seats or airline use. Locate the center bar at the bottom of the seat, push the tab at the end of the bar and pull the bar out. The seat can then be separated from the base. The seat has a "kickstand" that can be pulled out to sit the seat upright. Put the bar back in the base so you don't lose it.

To remove the harness, remove the base first. Then from the back of the seat, unfasten the harness from the harness bracket. Store the bracket by looping it behind and around the back spine of the shell. You can unthread the harness from that point and pull it out. From the bottom of the seat, locate the buckle's metal clip. Insert the clip up through the shell and pad, from the front pull the buckle free from the shell. Lock latch plates into buckle for safekeeping.

Once the seat is converted to adult straps don't use the latch system; hook the hooks together to keep it from swinging around, and place the top anchorage strap behind the seat with the anchor hook under the seat.
